Celebrate the 30th anniversary of Bedfont Country Lakes this Sunday
The Council and its partners are hosting a free event to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the iconic Bedfont Country Lakes. Held on Sunday, 20 July, between 12pm and 5pm, there will be face painting, music and fun for all the family.
The event will also include a bird of prey display, with the opportunity to learn about a wide variety of birds, as well as many other animal displays and opportunities to interact with them.
There is no need to book, residents can just turn up on the day.

As part of the Council’s wider community funding programme and infrastructure levy, The Mulberry Centre has been awarded over £45,000 to help refurbish its space.
Located on the grounds of West Middlesex Hospital, The Centre provides holistic support for anyone affected by cancer through counselling, complementary therapies, wellbeing activities and informative workshops, benefiting 10,000 people with cancer every year.
The Council has been working closely with the local charity for several years.
Busting sexual health myths
Do you know your fact from fiction when it comes to your sexual health? A new campaign from Sexual Health Hounslow (SHH) and the Council is busting the most common myths around sexually transmitted infections (STIs), contraception and unwanted pregnancy.
An animated video talks you through some of the misinformation out there, meaning you can feel confident when looking after your sexual health. The best way to keep yourself and any sexual partners safe is by regular STI testing, even if you don't have symptoms.
You can order a home testing kit from the Sexual Health London website. It's free, confidential and easy.
Connect directly with police in your area
The Metropolitan Police have recently rolled out a new way for Londoners to receive neighbourhood policing updates directly from their local officers.
Officers will use Met Engage to provide communities with crime prevention advice, information about local events and meetings, updates on ongoing events and investigations, and information about successful outcomes and operations.

Paid carers wanted for Shared Lives scheme
The Council is seeking paid carers for its Shared Lives scheme, which offers an alternative to supported living or residential care. It matches adults with paid carers in the family home who can earn up to £500 a week, depending on the needs of the person needing support.
The scheme provides for a range of needs and offers support for adults with learning disabilities, mental health issues, physical disabilities, and age-related conditions. Placements can be long or short term, day, or respite, providing a level of care that goes beyond the boundaries of conventional support services.
Heston-based Mohinder Dev (pictured) has been a Shared Lives carer for nearly 30 years and said: “The experience has enriched my life, and I have some lovely memories, with hopefully many more to come. When you look after people in this way, you regard them as your family. I look at them as my own."
Is there something we can help with?
Hounslow Citizens Advice (CAB) is hitting high streets and other locations across the borough this summer, making it easier for residents to access support close to home.
The CAB team will be out and about in their roving community support van, inviting people to stop by, say hi and ask them questions. They can help with everything from welfare benefits and money management, to help with health, housing, relationships and family and more.

Have your say on children's oral health
The Council's Public Health team is working hard to improve children's oral health. It wants to hear from families with children aged 0-18 to understand their current views and knowledge of the subject.
The responses will give the team an understanding of what people think about looking after children’s teeth.
The team is particularly keen to hear from families with children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), and those from the South Asian or Traveller community.
