3 June 2025
It's Volunteers' Week, which is the perfect time to tell you about some of the great opportunities to help keep Hounslow healthy by volunteering.
From helping mothers to feed their children to leading walks in the borough and more, here are some of the ways you can make a difference.

Next week is National Blood Week (9-15 June). The NHS is using the week as a springboard to meet its goal of one million regular blood donors in England.
Why not register as a donor today so you can make your first appointment to donate during the week itself?
Currently 2% of the population supply all the blood for NHS patients. Last year just under 800,000 people donated and blood stocks are low. If a million people gave blood regularly, the national blood stock would be closer to meeting the demand for life-saving treatments.
If you are an unpaid carer or look after someone, come along and join the Carers Week event at Holy Trinity Church, Hounslow High Street on Thursday, 12 June. You can meet other carers, enjoy activities ranging from mindfulness to yoga, and learn about how you can be supported in your role. The event is free and there is no registration required.
Harlington Care is also hosting a tea party to celebrate Carers Week on Monday, 9 June at 115B High Street Whitton, TW2 7LG.
If you are aged 60 and over, you can sign up for a free e-gym class at 11am this Friday, 6 June at New Chiswick Pool. The sessions take place at the same time every Friday.
It's just one of the great free classes available through Stay Steady and Active. For all other classes, please click here.
Working to maintain or recover muscle mass as you get older is important for your everyday movement.
A healthy exercise routine will make essential tasks like opening jars, lifting heavy objects, and climbing stairs easier. It will also help you to avoid joint and back injuries, which naturally occur as we age.

To celebrate Bike Week (9-15 June), BetterPoints is giving offering double points per minute (up to 150 minutes per week) when you cycle over half a mile.
In addition, you'll have the chance to win a brand-new Batribike e-bike and £200 of prizes as part of the Bike Week challenge. Download the BetterPoints app today to get involved.
Bowling Balls is returning to Holy Trinity Church, Hounslow on Tuesday, 24 June, 11am - 1pm. The event is aimed at raising awareness for men's health and tackling cancer head-on. It will cover prostate cancer, testicular cancer and bowel cancer, including signs and symptoms, screening information and who to talk to for advice.
Bowling Balls is designed specifically for men with learning disabilities and neurodiversity as well as their caregivers. There is no need to book in advance, you can just turn up on the day.
The Hounslow Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy is due to renew in 2026. You can contribute to the development of the next strategy by sharing your opinions through this short survey.
You will be asked to share areas that you think the Council and its partners should be focusing on against the four priorities of the strategy: Start Well, Live Well, Age Well and Healthy Places.

Every Thursday, FoodCycle and local volunteers transform Bedfont Lane Community Centre into a café-themed dining hall. A fresh, healthy, nutritious and plentiful three-course lunch menu is made from surplus food and served free of charge to local guests at lunchtime.
The Council's Health Outreach Team and Hounslow Citizens Advice also attend on the third Thursday of every month. They join in talking to local people and offering help with housing and council tax as well as blood pressure checks and general health advice.
