1 April 2025
This month is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month. Research shows that more than nine in ten people survive bowel cancer if diagnosed early.
Knowing the symptoms can help to spot the cancer at an earlier stage, when it's more likely to be treatable. Speak with your GP if you are regularly experiencing any of the symptoms.
It is also important to complete your bowel cancer screening test when offered, as it checks for signs of bowel cancer before symptoms start. Everyone aged 50-74 is automatically sent a home test kit every two years.
Residents aged 60 and over are invited to the spring Stay Steady and Active event on Thursday, 24 April, 10am - 1pm at Hanworth Air Park Leisure Centre, TW13 5EG.

The Council received a commendation at the Good Food Local London Awards 2025 for its work on the Healthier Food Advertising Policy.
The policy was approved by Cabinet in November 2024, making Hounslow the first Council in west London to restrict advertising of foods and drinks high in fat, salt and sugar.
The Council also became the first in the UK to introduce restrictions on the promotion of unhealthy commercial baby foods, as defined by the NPPM tool, to help give children in the borough the healthiest start in life.

Follow these tips to help reduce waste:
- Check your inhaler stock before ordering more
- Request inhalers at least three days in advance when running low
- Use inhalers as directed by a healthcare professional
- Return used and unwanted inhalers
