The Council is hosting an awareness event for Hounslow residents seeking support.

Volunteer to combat loneliness for Great Mental Health Day
Today is Great Mental Health Day, a London-wide initiative to get people talking about their mental health and wellbeing and raise awareness of the local support available to Londoners all year round.
To mark the day, the Council is encouraging residents to sign up and volunteer for BEfriend's Linked Minds project and support people in Hounslow who are experiencing loneliness due to a diagnosed mental health problem. Hounslow celebrates new SEND Local Offer website
 Last Friday saw a celebration of a new, improved online resource for families and professionals working with children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Developed in collaboration with the Hounslow community, including over 300 young people, parents, carers, and professionals, the website serves as a vital resource for anyone supporting children with SEND.
Local partners attended the launch for the new resource, including Ruils, DFN Project SEARCH, Contact and Hounslow Youth Counselling - all examples of SEND services people can search for on the new site.
The cornerstone of Local Offer Live events are SEND Surgeries, with the next one scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 11 February, 11.30am to 1.30pm at Feltham Assembly Hall (Google Maps)
Join Apprenticeships Marketplace job fair
 On Thursday, 13 February, residents of all ages seeking apprenticeships, training or upskilling opportunities can find out live opportunities available at the Apprenticeships Marketplace job fair.
As part of the National Apprenticeships Week (10-16 February) celebration, the event will take place on the sixth floor of Hounslow House, between 10am and 3pm. Up to 20 national and local employers will be in attendance, including the National Physical Laboratory, London Fire Brigade, Marriott, Heathrow Animal Reception Centre, training and education providers and more.
Hounslow Council marks the 80th anniversary of Auschwitz liberation
 On Monday, 27 January, The Leader of Hounslow Council joined the Mayor of Hounslow, Deputy Lieutenant Rosi Prescott and a number of other Councillors to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day at Chiswick School. At the event, Gloria Silver spoke about the experience of her father, Tony Chuwen, who was held in two concentration camps and managed to escape by jumping off a moving train.
New Year, new courses - starting February 2025
 Hounslow residents have access to a diverse range of courses through Learn Hounslow, running from September to July each year. Whether you're looking to enhance your wellbeing through short, informal courses or develop new skills for career advancement, Learn Hounslow has something for everyone.
Starting in February 2025, Learn Hounslow is offering a range of qualification courses, with initial assessments taking place in January and February. If you are 19 years or older and interested in enrolling, this is a fantastic opportunity to develop skills that will set you up for success.

Free courses to boost your health and wellbeing
The Wellbeing and Recovery College is a training and resource centre that offers free educational courses and workshops focusing on physical, mental and emotional wellbeing and recovery.
It also provides useful resources and helpful tips for you to try at home to support and maintain good health and wellbeing. The spring 2025 course prospectus has now been published and offers courses ranging from one-off workshops to 10-session programmes.

Secure a nursery spot for your child
 If your child was born between 1 September 2021 and 31 August 2022, it’s time to start thinking about their nursery place for September 2025. Children aged 3 or 4 in Hounslow are entitled to a free 15-hour place in a school nursery.

Celebrate Hounslow’s youth, nominate a young person now
 The London Youth Achievement Awards 2025, hosted by the Greater London Authority (GLA) and the London Youth Assembly, is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the incredible talent and contributions of young people across London. This prestigious event recognises the achievements of young individuals, aged 11-18 and 18-25 for SEND or Children in Care (CIC)/Care Leavers, who have made outstanding contributions to their communities or excelled in various fields.
Nominations are open now and the deadline is Tuesday, 11 February at 11.59 pm. If you know a young person who deserves to be celebrated, don’t hesitate to submit a nomination.
