Give blood this winter
The festive period is the season of giving and you can give the best gift this winter by donating blood. The NHS is urging donors to book appointments in the lead up to Christmas to ensure there is enough blood in stock to meet demand over the busy holiday period.
Blood is constantly needed to help the NHS treat patients with cancer, blood disorders, those suffering medical trauma or undergoing surgery, and for emergency care. Each donation can save or improve up to three lives.
To register or book an appointment to give blood, visit the website via the button below, use the GiveBlood app or call 030 0123 2323. You can make an appointment at any of the permanent donor centres listed.

Christmas and New Year bin collections
The revised bin collection schedule comes into effect on Saturday, 21 December and normal service will resume on Monday, 6 January 2025.
Both the Garden Waste and Bulky Waste Collection service will be suspended for two weeks over this period to assist with the additional workload.
Space Waye will also be closed on Wednesday, 25 December and Thursday, 26 December, as well as Wednesday, 1 January 2025.
You can help the teams perform the collections as effectively as possible by preparing your rubbish correctly and recycling the correct items. Use the Waste Wizard tool to find out what you can recycle and how.

Find your nearest Warm Space
To help with rising energy costs, the Council is working with voluntary organisations to provide a space for residents to keep warm and to keep the bills down, while at the same time accessing help, support, and the opportunity to learn new skills.
Pop into any of the warm spaces whenever they are open. There will be a variety of offers available at different locations, including community hubs and libraries across the borough, where residents can access free wi-fi, or just simply read a book and relax.
This includes advice, information and guidance on issues such as money management and employment, as well as a place to connect with others through a range of activities.
