26 November 2024
Time is running out if you want to get your free flu and Covid-19 vaccines through the NHS booking site, or in your community with the Heath Outreach Team.
The last available date you can book on the NHS booking systems for flu or Covid-19 is Friday, 20 December and slots will get booked up fast, so don’t delay if that’s your preferred option.
The last date you can meet the Health Outreach Team to get vaccinated in the heart of your community will be Thursday, 19 December.
There are also catch-up clinics taking place over the next few weeks where children from Reception to Year 11 can receive their flu vaccines.
If your child has not yet had the nasal spray vaccine this winter, take a look at the available dates and book them in today.
As we head into winter, local hospitals and GPs are very busy, which means longer waiting times.
Pharmacies across Hounslow are a great alternative if you want immediate treatment and advice for common health conditions, with no GP appointment or prescription needed.
Going there first will benefit you and take pressure off our emergency hospital departments and GP services, which can feel the strain at this time of year.
Highly trained pharmacists can assess and treat patients for several common health conditions.

This week is PrEP Awareness Week. PreEP is short for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis, it's a preventative treatment for HIV that involves taking pills.
The treatment needs to be started before sex and is very effective if taken correctly. Taking PrEP before being exposed to HIV means there’s enough drug inside someone's body to block HIV if it gets in.
To make an appointment for PrEP treatment, residents can use Hounslow Sexual Health's online booking system for a face-to-face appointment, or 020 8321 5718.

- A quiet room: a dedicated safe space
- Sensory tools: textured blankets, glimmers such as fresh flowers
- Engaging activities: autism specific colouring books and festive films
- Refreshments: hot drinks, biscuits and fresh fruit

North West London NHS Trust would like to hear your views on palliative care through a consultation called Compassionate Care for All.
There is a difference between palliative care and end-of-life care. End-of-life care is a specific type of care for people nearing the final stages of their life. It aims to ensure comfort, dignity and support, managing symptoms and providing emotional and practical help.
General palliative care is care provided by professionals such as GPs, district nurses or care home staff and can carry on for years.
The consultation is an opportunity for residents to give their views on how to improve these services in north west London.
The Council is celebrating International Day of Persons with Disabilities with an event on Tuesday, 3 December at Holy Trinity Church, 11am-3:30pm.
The event will spotlight the intersection of disability rights and climate action, recognising that we can achieve more – for the borough, and for our planet – by listening to the unique knowledge and strengths of people with disabilities.
It will bring together a mixture of interesting perspectives from TfL, UCL, the University of Exeter, and more. Whether it’s a marketplace with disability-confident employers and local disability groups, a fire-side chat with subject matter experts, or a panel on transport – there will be something for everyone.
Are you interested in volunteering to help tackle social isolation and loneliness in Hounslow? BEfriend is looking to recruit volunteers for its befriending services. The main service supports people experiencing loneliness and isolation and the second service, Linked Minds, provides support specifically for people who are isolated due to mental health challenges.
Volunteers will typically visit a befriendee once a week for an hour or two to have a chat and strike up a friendship. Full training and ongoing support will be provided to all volunteers throughout their befriending journey.
Between now and Christmas, Hounslow's Health Outreach Team (HOT) will be out with Jade Pharmacy delivering free flu and Covid-19 vaccinations to the heart of your community, along with the usual health checks and information.
