Are you interested in volunteering to help tackle social isolation and loneliness in Hounslow? BEfriend is looking to recruit volunteers for its befriending services. The main service supports people experiencing loneliness and isolation and the second service, Linked Minds, provides support specifically for people who are isolated due to mental health challenges.
Volunteers will typically visit a befriendee once a week for an hour or two to have a chat and strike up a friendship. Full training and ongoing support will be provided to all volunteers throughout their befriending journey.
A new website for Hounslow residents aged 60 plus launches today – Stay Steady and Active aims to increase activity levels, test balance abilities and reduce the risks of falls.
The website lists a range of activity sessions for the over 60’s, many of which are FREE. Taking part in physical activity really benefits the over 60’s as it helps to increase bone health and strength, reducing the risk of injuries and fractures associated with a fall.
Residents can also take the Staying Steady Test to understand which services they may benefit from in Hounslow.

Do you want to learn a new skill? As part of the Council’s Five Ways to Wellbeing campaign, this week’s theme is Keep Learning.
You can turn to local services such as Learn Hounslow for adult education courses, Hounslow Digital Drop-ins for support with technology or the Wellbeing and Recovery College for free educational courses on physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
The Council wants to hear how you access and use pharmacy services to help make improvements in the future. Your views will help inform our Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA) which will look at health needs in Hounslow, the level and accessibility of pharmacy services, and how these will be maintained and developed in the future.
The questionnaire should take no longer than five minutes to complete and the information that you provide is confidential. Please be honest with your answers so the Council can accurately assess areas where pharmacies are already fulfilling your needs well, and areas that need improvement.
Back in the Summer, the Council's Community Provisions team ran a very successful and engaging men's cancer awareness event called Bowling Balls for men with autism, learning disabilities and related conditions.
Next month, Bowling Balls returns to Holy Trinity Church, Hounslow on Monday, 4 November from 11am - 1pm. This event will cover a new men's health topic, fitness and nutrition. There is no need to book in advance, just turn up on the day.
The Community Provisions team supports adults with disabilities to overcome barriers and thrive. If you have any questions or would like to get involved, please email the team.
