Council launches Waste Wizard to make recycling easier
It’s time to unleash your recycling magic with the Council’s Waste Wizard online tool and app.
This nifty new piece of technology help can instantly remove the problem of finding the best and most environmentally-friendly way to dispose of your unwanted items.
All you have to do is visit the Council’s website to find the online tool, or go to the Apple or Google Play app stores to download the app by searching for LB Hounslow Waste Wizard.
Win free advertising, mentoring and more for your small business
The Advance for Growth (AFG) initiative is back for another year, inviting start-ups, small businesses, and entrepreneurs across Hounslow to compete for a chance to win an exciting package of tailored business support, mentoring, creative advice, and campaign planning.
The prize package includes a chance for the winner to see their business name up in lights with a year’s digital advertising on the Council and JCDecaux’s screens across the borough.
To be in with a chance of winning, businesses have to be registered in Hounslow, have been trading for at least a year, have fewer than 25 staff, and have an annual turnover of less than £5 million. The deadline for entries is Friday, 18 October.
The Council wants your views on Hounslow’s public spaces
The Council wants your views on the future design of the borough’s public spaces. Examples of public open spaces include high streets, public squares and the entrances to buildings such as train stations, parks, faith buildings and schools.
A consultation, called Transforming Hounslow’s Public Spaces, is now open for anyone who lives, works or studies in Hounslow to get involved, have their say and make a difference. It closes on Monday, 30 September.
Talk to the Council about the future of transport
The Council will be hosting a special online session to discuss the new Transport Strategy for Hounslow on Monday, 23 September.
It's currently seeking residents’ views on transport issues in the borough to help put the plan together.
Council planners want to update the borough’s existing Transport Strategy to make sure it reflects the needs of people who live, work and visit Hounslow. The online session will take place over Teams between 6pm and 7pm.
Repair treasured items and learn new skills
The popular Repair Café, where you can bring in an item for repair and pick up new skills into the bargain, returns to Heston Community Centre on Saturday, 28 September.
Head down from 1pm and bring one item you wish to be repaired, from electricals to clothing and even bikes. The repair experts can also give you the skills to repair items yourself, meaning next time you can save yourself the trip.
It's a great way to save money, reduce costs, and meet new people.
SEND Parents survey
The Hounslow Parent Carers Forum is a community of parents and carers of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in Hounslow. Their mission is to provide support, share experiences, and work collaboratively with the Council to improve services for families.
They are currently running their annual survey to collect feedback about local services. Please try and find the time to complete it. You can also get involved yourself to support this important local organisation if you’re a parent or carer of a young person with SEND.
Catch brass band Orchestre International du Vetex at Bell Square
Orchestre International du Vetex, a wildly entertaining brass band with musicians from Belgium, France and the Balkans, is coming to Bell Square on Saturday, 28 September.
The band creates its own musical universe, combining Latin-inspired Balkan music with Tarantella, Polka and Cumbia - all arranged with a twist of punk.
Head down from 8pm for the free concert, which is part of the celebrations of 10 years of Bell Square.
Black History Month event at Brentford FC's Gtech Community Stadium
Hounslow residents are invited to sign up for a Black History Month event at Brentford FC’s Gtech Community Stadium on Wednesday, 9 October.
The event will see a range of exciting speakers discuss the importance of this year’s theme, ‘Reclaiming Narratives’. After the speakers, attendees will have the option of a tour of the stadium.
