The Creative Mile returns to Brentford
The Creative Mile, an art trail through Brentford, will celebrate the artistic theme of 'Time' from Friday, 30 August to Saturday, 1 September. Come along to explore Brentford’s creative communities, new landscapes and watersides. It’s a free event for everyone and there's no need to book in advance, just turn up on the day.
The trail is part of the Council’s wider Summer of Culture campaign, which celebrates arts, culture and community through a series of events aimed to excite, amaze, educate and inspire.
Change to bin collection days due to bank holiday
Bin collection days will move one day back next week due to the upcoming bank holiday. For example, if your usual collection day is a Wednesday, it will be on Thursday instead.
Hounslow pledges support for Government's net zero mission
The Council's Cabinet Member for Climate, Environment and Transport has written to Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband MP about working together to achieve net zero and energy security.
In her letter, Councillor Katherine Dunne highlighted Hounslow's leadership in climate action and its ambitious target to achieve net zero by 2030.
She also invited Mr. Miliband to visit Hounslow to discuss further collaboration and see first-hand the work taking place in the borough to tackle climate change.
South Asian Rhythm and Sound
To mark the end of South Asian Heritage month, the Council's brand-new event, Rhythm and Sound: A Taste of South Asia, will take place on Saturday, 17 August at Lampton Park, TW3 4LD between 2pm and 6pm.
This is a free event showcasing music, food, arts and crafts by South Asian talent and entrepreneurs from the borough. All are welcome.
Be the architect of your own future
Do you want to be an architect but lack the means to go through a traditional academic route? The application deadline for a nine-month traineeship called Build The Way (BTW) has been extended to Monday 18 August, and applications from over 18s in Hounslow are welcome.
Established as a trial in 2021, the programme, which starts in October, aims to help under-represented groups enter the architecture profession in a more tenable and financially-feasible way.
Super Sports Day
To celebrate the Olympics, Hounslow's Super Sports Day will take place on Saturday, 24 August at Heston Park, TW5 0LG, between 11am and 4pm.
The day will be filled with fun games and activities, as well as taster sessions for sports. Residents can also meet fitness and health providers and enter some retro races to keep up the competitive spirit. Healthy refreshments will be available, so join us and help get Hounslow fit.
Report shows ULEZ improving air quality
The expansion of London’s Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) is having a beneficial effect on air quality for Hounslow residents, according to a report by the Greater London Authority (GLA).
The recently-published report shows that harmful Nitrogen Oxides emissions from cars have been cut by an estimated 13%, with a 7% cut from vans.
