On Thursday, 18 July, the Council’s Public Health and Trading Standards team are joining forces to host a Tobacco Day of Action event at Bell Square on Hounslow High Street, from 10am-3pm.
The event is focused around making residents aware of the dangers of illicit tobacco and vapes, as well as offering help and support for people that want to quit smoking. Representatives from both teams will be in attendance and happy to answer any questions or queries you may have on the topic.
Furthermore, there will be free merchandise and a survey to complete with a chance to win a £50 Amazon voucher.
There is no registration for this event – just come along on the day in good time.
West London NHS Trust, the charity SHOUT, and the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych) have joined forces to provide a 24/7 text support service to pregnant women and new parents in Hounslow, who are experiencing mental health problems.
People that are pregnant or have a newly born child are able to text HUG to 85258 if they are struggling to cope or need help “in the moment", where volunteers will offer support and directing users to resources and services where longer-term help is available.

Measles spreads easily and can cause serious illnesses, including pneumonia and meningitis. A rash and high fever could be an indication of measles, so if you have suspicions see a doctor straight away.
If your children have not had the MMR vaccine, you should get them immunised as soon as possible. The vaccine is safe and effective, protecting your child against measles, mumps and rubella. Speak to your GP to get them vaccinated.
Measles can also spread in adults, so you too should get vaccinated. If you come into close contact with someone who has developed measles, then you should seek medical help as your GP can offer you some protection against developing severe illness.
Hounslow libraries have teamed up with librarians across the capital to launch a new app that takes inspiration from the Couch to 5k fitness plan to get people reading more.
Developed by London Libraries - the London network of national library charity Libraries Connected - and aimed at Londoners who would like to read more, Read On is a digital gateway to a universe of books.
Read On has been launched just in time for the summer holidays in the hope the app can turn the traditional “beach read” into a year-round habit, with all the benefits that brings: research has shown that reading for pleasure can reduce feelings of stress and depression, increase self-esteem and improve our ability to cope with difficult situations. Adults who read for just 30 minutes a week are 20% more likely to report greater life satisfaction.
Residents can download the iOS and Android app directly and start working towards their reading goals straight away.
