![Creative Growing](https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/fancy_images/UKHOUNSLOW/2024/05/9427330/creative-growing_original.jpg) The second orchard project of Hounslow's Grow for the Future initiative has opened up a neglected alleyway in Cranford's Brabazon Estate and transformed it into a thriving space with new fruit trees and lavender.
'Creative Growing' sessions will be hosted by Creative Spaces London to encourage residents of all ages to learn the skills needed to grow food. These sessions include indoor planting, visits to local parks and open spaces, designing a gardening toolkit, and more.
Sessions will take place every Wednesday, 12-2pm near Brabazon Community Centre, TW5 9LT. These will run until Wednesday, 22 May 2024.

Empowering black men through community dialogue and support
![Celebrating black men event May 24](https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/fancy_images/UKHOUNSLOW/2024/04/9383580/5411109/black-men-event-april24_crop.jpg) Hounslow Council, in collaboration with the Ghanaian Community Forum, is staging an event for black men of all ages at Brentford’s Musical Museum from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, 18 May.
The collaboration promises to bring black men and the wider community together to openly discuss relevant topics and gain advice from professionals on key issues affecting them.
Topics covered will include mental health, bowel and prostate cancer, education, employment and business development, and domestic violence against men.
Presenter Anthony Baker will lead discussions on black male identity and multi-generational challenges. Lunch will feature authentic Afro-Caribbean food, while attendees will be entertained by live music courtesy of the Steel Pan Trust.
Join an inspiring event to improve women's health
![Women's health event 22 May](https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/fancy_images/UKHOUNSLOW/2024/04/9402831/beige-illustrated-international-women-39-s-day-gree_original.png) Ahead of International Day of Action for Women's Health, there will be an event at Holy Trinity Church, Hounslow on Wednesday, 22 May to highlight the health challenges women face and how to tackle them.
The discussions and feedback from the day will be used by members of the Borough Based Partnership to help shape the first Hounslow Women’s Health Strategy, which will empower women across the borough and beyond to improve their health services.
There will also be inspiring female experts on the day talking about several key areas of women's health, as well as a light lunch with networking opportunities. It's a great chance for women to have their voice heard and to work together towards better health.
Small but perfectly formed grants now available
![Thriving communities grants](https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/fancy_images/UKHOUNSLOW/2024/04/9383632/5411110/thriving-communities-grants_crop.jpeg) We have now opened applications for our Thriving Communities Fund Small Grants. These provide funding of up to £1,000 for projects that bring communities together and improve their health and wellbeing.
Applications are encouraged from community and voluntary sector organisations and informal groups, including residents and neighbours' groups like the Polish Klan’s women-only exercise class (pictured).
We accept applications for this fund on a rolling basis. Funding decisions are usually communicated within four weeks.
Let It Sew

Heston in the Loop’s latest event is the place to be.
Starting on Tuesday, 7 May, 12-2pm at Heston Farm Estate Community Hall (TW5 0UZ) and taking place every week until early July, the new Sew it Begins classes welcome sewers of all abilities.
All the guidance, equipment, and free refreshments you could hope for will be provided, so come along and have a go on the easy-to-use use sewing machines.
These are drop-in sessions with no booking necessary, but please note that there is a limit of eight people for the weekday sessions, and six people at the weekend.
Celebrate Polish culture at the Polish Heritage Festival

Residents are invited to come along and enjoy traditional Polish dance, food, and fun, in a celebration of the Polish community in London.
Additionally, the Council’s Community Information Team will be in attendance, offering advice and support on topics such as care and support, what help is available if you want to lose weight, give up smoking or make healthier choices, and other organisations, charities and groups that can offer support in the borough.

Question the Cabinet at the Gtech stadium

The event will follow a similar format to BBC Question Time, with questions to the Council’s Cabinet taken from residents either on the night or submitted in advance, online or by email. It will be independently chaired by Cliff Crown, Chairman of Brentford FC.
Please note that residents must book a ticket to attend by 9am on Monday, 3 June through a link on the webpage. There are no drop-in spaces available for this event and anyone without a ticket will be turned away.
