Understanding the symptoms of ovarian cancer can save lives
![Ovarian cancer month graphic](https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/fancy_images/UKHOUNSLOW/2024/03/9173045/5328943/main-symptoms-in-english-rectangle_crop.jpg) This month is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. It's a chance to raise awareness of the symptoms of ovarian cancer and help women to get a diagnosis before it's too late.
In the UK, over 7,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer every year. Two-thirds of these women are diagnosed too late, when the cancer is harder to treat. Tragically, this leads to 11 women in the UK dying of the illness every day.
Target Ovarian Cancer are determined to change this, especially when survival rates in other countries are so much higher. Please head to their website to find out more about recognising the symptoms, accessing support, and what you can do to spread the word.
Help improve health services for young families in London
![UCL young family research](https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/fancy_images/UKHOUNSLOW/2024/03/9173703/5328944/ucl-research-thrive_crop.jpg) UCL researchers are inviting parents and caregivers of children up to 12 years old to give their views on family wellbeing, health, and how children's physical growth is measured at school.
If you are in this group, or know others who may want to take part, it's a great way to shape local services for young families and future research into the young people's health.

If you're a parent or a carer it can sometimes be difficult to know whether your child is too ill to attend school.
NHS guidance is clear that it’s fine to send your child in with a minor cough or common cold, unless they have a temperature of 38 degrees or above.
You can check out all the latest information and guidance on your child's health and school attendance on the Government's Education Hub online.

Learn about childhood immunisations and how to keep your children safe
![Imms graphic](https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/fancy_images/UKHOUNSLOW/2024/03/9135135/5314385/imms-graphic_crop.jpg) With cases of measles and other childhood illnesses continuing to rise, we want to spread the word about how safe and effective childhood immunisations are. To help, we’re handing over the students at Hounslow’s Vaccination High School.
Infections like measles and whooping cough can have a big impact on the child’s life. They can miss out on school if they’re ill and even experience life-long complications, disability, and in some cases death.
Childhood immunisations, such as the MMR vaccine are safe and just two doses offer lifelong protection against these illnesses.
If you want to book your child's free vaccines or have any questions, do not hesitate to speak to your GP or health visitor.

If you're aged 40 and over, you can get a free blood pressure check at your local participating pharmacy without needing to book in advance. Find a pharmacy that offers free blood pressure checks near you by clicking this link.
Another option for free blood pressure checks is the Council's Heath Outreach Team, which is out and about across Hounslow over the next few weeks.
Healthy Hounslow also offers free health checks across the borough, including blood pressure checks.
