Hounslow's class act explains Childhood Immunisation
With cases of measles and other childhood illnesses continuing to rise, we want to spread the word about how safe and effective childhood immunisations are.
And to help, we’re handing over the students at Hounslow’s Vaccination High School, who have been vaxed to the max to beat the bugs.
The Council’s Childhood Immunisation animation is a fun and friendly way of explaining this serious subject to parents, carers and children who may have concerns or queries about immunisation.
Infections like measles and whooping cough can have a big impact on the child’s life. They can miss out on school if they’re ill and even experience life-long complications, disability, and in some cases death.
Childhood immunisations, such as the MMR vaccine are safe and just two doses offer lifelong protection against these illnesses.
If you want to book your child's free vaccines or have any questions, do not hesitate to speak to your GP or health visitor.

Time to cash in on No Smoking Day
If you’re thinking about giving up smoking, then do it tomorrow and you could be quids in.
Wednesday, 13 March is National No Smoking Day and to mark the occasion, Hounslow’s healthy activity app BetterPoints is offering smokers an extra incentive with a big points giveaway.
The deal is this - sign up to Healthy Hounslow’s Stop Smoking Service and you could earn a BetterPoints bonus to the equivalent value of £50.
Once you have signed up for the stop smoking service, download the BetterPoints app using the promo case ThriveNSD24 to claim your reward.
If you need more of an incentive to give up smoking, then how about:
- After one year of quitting, your risk of heart attack halves compared to a smoker’s.
- After 10 years, your risk of death from lung cancer falls to half that of a smoker.
- After 15 years, your risk of heart attack falls to the same as someone who has never smoked.
So don’t delay, give up smoking on National No Smoking Day.
Over 60s can still Stay Fit and Stay Healthy
Sit to get fit: Chair-based exercise sessions, part of the Hounslow Stay Fit, Stay Healthy season.
Hounslow’s Stay Fit, Stay Healthy activity sessions are proving to be a big hit with the borough’s over 60s.
Since the programme kicked off at the beginning of February, residents have been flocking to regular exercise, creative arts, music therapy, Tai Chi and yoga sessions.
These sessions have proven so popular that many are now fully booked, all the way to April. However, there are still plenty of opportunities to get involved.
The Creative Arts Campus at Edward Pauling House and the Danehurst Centre still have places available. Places are also available for Community Gardening at Frogley House and Music Therapy at the Danehurst Centre. You can also sing up for Nutrition and exercise and Gadget Surgery at the Danehurst Centre.
Take a look at the full Stay Fit, Stay Healthy programme for more information. Based on the success of this project, a new programme of events is now being planned from April onwards.
Hounslow helps highlight high blood pressure
Tackle you high blood pressure, reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease.(CVD).
CVD causes one in four deaths in England and is a leading cause of disability.
As the condition usually has no symptoms, it is estimated that 4.2 million people in England have undiagnosed high blood pressure.
The only way to know if you have high blood pressure is to get a blood pressure test, which is a free, simple, non-invasive procedure.
If you're aged 40 and over, you can get a free blood pressure check at your local participating pharmacy, without needing to book in advance.
Find a pharmacy that offers free blood pressure checks near you by clicking this link.
Healthy Hounslow also offers free health checks across the borough, including blood pressure checks.
Find out more at Healthy Hounslow’s website.

CarePlace directory temporarily offline
Hounslow’s online directory of Social Care Services, news, and community information CarePlace, has been temporarily taken offline by the providers.
It is anticipated that the site could be down for at least two weeks.
In the interim, we have provided a temporary directory of services that you can access through the Council's website.
Here you can search for information on a range of subjects including care and support at home, education and employment and financial matters.
We will continue to add information to the temporary CarePlace webpages until the full site is back up and running.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
