Play the LitterLotto
Hounslow Highways has teamed up with LitterLotto to help ensure a cleaner Hounslow.
The new app, which is available via the Apple and Google Play stores, offers weekly and monthly prize opportunities in exchange for residents and visitors helping to keep the streets clean of litter.
The app allows residents to take a photograph each time they put litter in one of the many litter bins across the borough, thereby submitting an entry, and having the chance to win one of many different prizes.
The partnership aims to encourage residents to play their part in the community by using the bins, or taking their litter home with them.
Hounslow supports UCL students in improving road safety and air quality
The Council has exchanged some air quality, traffic and other data for some fresh, innovative ideas from these University College London students, who are going to help improve safety and air quality around local schools.
The students are working on their Transport Consultancy module, providing an opportunity to work with Council experts on real-life transport projects, with a focus on School Streets – the closure of roads outside the borough’s schools at drop-off and pick-up times.
West London Volunteers Fair
As we look forward to another Summer of Culture across the borough, have you considered volunteering at one of West London’s historic houses? Or perhaps you’d like to give up some free time to support one of the galleries or museums in the area?
On Wednesday, 20 March, from 10am-1pm, come and connect with local cultural organisations at one of Hounslow’s finest historic houses - Boston Manor House - and learn about a diverse range of volunteering opportunities. There will be at least twenty partners to chat to, including the hosts, Gunnersbury Park and Museum, Fulham Palace and Ealing & Hounslow Community Volunteering Service.

Trio of forums next week
Three of the current round of Area Forums are taking place next week, with Chiswick kicking things off on Tuesday, 12 March.
Area Forums are a chance for residents to speak with organisations, elected councillors and Council teams about important local issues.
There's no registration for these events, just come along in good time on the evening.
Food Waste Action Week runs from 18-24 March. The theme for the event is 'Choose What You'll Use'.
Residents are encouraged to “Choose What You’ll Use” by buying fruit and vegetables loose instead of packaged. Research from Love Food Hate Waste has shown that the UK could reduce food waste by 60,000 tonnes just by buying loose fruit and veg.
The Waste and Recycling team will be on hand at libraries throughout the week to offer tips on how to reduce food waste and lower weekly food bills. There’ll be freebies too! The timetable is as follows (all events run from 2:30-4:30):

-
Isleworth Library: Tuesday, 19 March
-
Heston Library: Wednesday, 20 March
