![International Women's Day Poster](https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/fancy_images/UKHOUNSLOW/2023/02/7165233/4579529/social-international-womens-day-iwd-feb23_crop.jpg) Hounslow Council invites you to celebrate International Women’s Day with local community groups, residents and staff in what promises to be a fascinating afternoon on Wednesday, 8 March from 1.30pm. There will be a diverse range of speakers from Shewise , Action Breaks Silence and Council representatives followed by a panel discussion that also involves Surviving Economic Abuse and the Afghan and Central Asian Association, based in Feltham.
International Women’s Day is a global event celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality. The theme for this year is #EmbraceEquity, and has been selected to highlight the importance of collective activism, through challenging gender stereotypes, calling out discrimination, drawing attention to bias and seeking out inclusion. Forging gender equity is not limited to solely women; allies are incredibly important for the social, economic, cultural and political advancement of women too.

TFL and Hounslow Council complete Cycleway 9 section in Chiswick
![Cyclists on Cycle path](https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/fancy_images/UKHOUNSLOW/2023/02/7161068/cycleway-9-edit_original.jpg) Hounslow Borough Council and Transport for London (TfL) have completed work on the latest phase of temporary improvements to the Cycleway 9 route in west London.
Cycleway 9 is a major addition to London’s growing network of quality cycleways, enabling thousands of improved walking and cycling journeys between Hammersmith, Chiswick, Kew and beyond each week. Enabling more people to walk and cycle is vital to a healthier and more sustainable transport network for residents.
TfL is asking people to share their views on the changes to help it decide whether to make this experimental scheme permanent. Hounslow Council will use feedback and monitoring data from the experimental scheme to make a decision about its future. The consultation is open until 3 April.

Calling Hounslow's innovators: support Heston Village
![Heston in the Loop Poster](https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/fancy_images/UKHOUNSLOW/2023/02/7165232/4579530/heston-in-the-loop-call-for-innovators-electricals_crop.jpg) Hounslow Council has teamed up with ReLondon to create a circular, low waste neighbourhood in Heston village.
The circular economy is one in which stuff is kept in use for as long as possible. So rather than making, using and then throwing stuff away, we’re encouraging new ways of cycling materials, and using products again and again, in many different forms.
We’re looking for established small and medium sized circular businesses seeking to strengthen their pre-existing circular offering. We want you to bring your activity to Heston village and help give the community increased access to sustainable consumption choices, and help reduce waste production and increase recycling, reusing, repairing, and sharing.
This is a fantastic opportunity to be an active partner in a pioneer circular economy neighbourhood project that we aim to replicate in neighbourhoods London-wide.
Deadline for applications is Tuesday, 28 February, at 11:59pm.
Hounslow's Digital Festival of Storytelling - Over to You
The next chapter of the Hounslow Digital Festival of Storytelling is all about you.
As part of the ongoing celebration of the spoken word, it’s now time for Hounslow residents to share their stories.
Your poems, family histories and fables will be used to showcase the rich diversity of Hounslow and its communities.
They will form part of a playlist on Hounslow Council’s Festival of Storytelling Youtube Channel. Some of those chosen will also be brought breathtakingly to life by professional illustrators.
To help build these stories the festival team has put together a special storytelling toolkit with the help of some of the country's finest professional tale tellers. There are guides to download that will give you tips on how to record your story.
The storytelling inbox summerofculture@hounslow.gov.uk for residents to send their stories in audio or video will be open until 6 March.
COVID-19 vaccine - first and second doses still available
The seasonal COVID-19 booster programme has now come to a close.
Boosters are offered seasonally to a range of eligible groups and the NHS says that the programme will run again later in the year.
However, you can still get your first and second dose of the vaccine, if you haven't already done so.
Adults and children over the age of five can get their first and second doses at any time. Younger children can get the vaccine if they have a weakened immune system or if they live with someone who has a weakened immune system.
There are a number of ways you can do this, including through your doctor or at a walk-in vaccination centre.
Getting vaccinated against COVID-19 is your best protection against becoming seriously ill if you catch the virus.
