Hounslow schools recognised for sustainable travel programme
Forty schools across Hounslow borough have now been officially accredited by Transport for London (TfL) for their commitment to sustainable travel. This involves pupils, parents and teachers increasing their commitment to beating congestion, pollution and improving road safety around schools.
TfL has accredited the 40 schools that have committed to the Sustainable Travel, Active, Responsible, Safe (STARS) programme, which is an online accreditation scheme that inspires children and their schools to think and act differently about travel and its impact on their health, wellbeing and the environment. The programme works to address issues of congestion at the school gates, road safety and air quality and urges children to walk, cycle or scoot to school.

Park Love
The Conservation Volunteers are running a couple of sessions that are perfect if you’re particularly picky about litter or just care about our fabulous green spaces in the borough.
It’s a great way to get out and about and meet new people while doing some good in green spaces that need some TLC.
Volunteers can litter pick every Monday at Avenue Park on Cranford High St (TW5 9RU) – just meet up at the Outdoor Gym next to the tennis courts. On Tuesdays, head to Waye Avenue Open Space (TW5 9SQ) to help clear the way for a new footpath due for completion next year. You’ll be clearing hogweed and other vegetation, so prepare to get down and dirty.
Full details are available by contacting Judith Ressler on 07483 050 759 or via j.ressler@tcv.org.uk

Callout for local illustrators
Are you creative when translating words into images? Do you enjoy listening to stories from all sorts and backgrounds? Are you able to condense a thousand words into an illustration? Then this is for you!
Our Digital Festival of Storytelling is coming to Hounslow next February 2023.
We want to encourage and empower everyone in the borough to share their stories with us: from a personal experience that transformed their lives, to how they came to live in the borough, or which stories they or their parents were told as children.
All these stories will form a digital archive, so we remember and can access the diversity and richness of stories shared by our residents.
We are looking to commission an illustrator to create some illustrations which represent a selection of the submitted stories.
If you are interested in being considered as the illustrator for this project, please send the following to summerofculture@hounslow.gov.uk by 11 December:
- A selection of your work. This could be via links or as attachments. If attaching work, please keep the file size low and only attach four examples
- A short summary of why you would like to be considered for the role including your connection to the borough and similar project experience if you have it. Please also include your fee per day. Please, keep it to one side of A4 – we will not be able to read further than that.
We will contact you by 16 December with the outcome.

Be aware of blue badge offenders
A Blue Badge scheme is in place to help disabled people to park close to their destination, either as a passenger or driver. While the badge is intended for on-street parking only, some off-street car parks, such as those provided by councils, hospitals or supermarkets also offer benefits to Blue Badge holders.
It is a criminal offence to misuse the badge and doing so can lead to a £1,000 fine. If the badge holder is using the parking concessions as a passenger (as opposed to driving the car themselves), it is their responsibility to make sure that the driver is aware of the rules of the scheme.
Fraudulent use of Blue Badges stops people in need from accessing on-street parking where they need it most. If you see or are aware of the illegal use, please contact us immediately giving details of their number plate and badge number if you can on 0800 328 6453 or email: bluebadge@hounslow.gov.uk
If your badge has been lost or stolen please complete the form linked below.

COVID-19 and flu cases continue to be reported in Hounslow.
Research has shown that people who get flu and Covid-19 at the same time can become seriously ill.
The number of groups who can get their Covid-19 booster for free has expanded and now includes the over 50s, as well as younger people in other priority groups. There are plenty of venues across the borough, including GP surgeries and pharmacies, where residents can get boosters.
