Royal National Institute of Blind (RNIB) are pleased to announce this exciting opportunity for two young people to be involved in the delivery of a brand-new service in the Borough by joining the Eye Care Liaison Officer (ECLO) team as part of the RNIB Eye Care Support Service.

RNIB in partnership with Hounslow Council and the Middlesex Association for the Blind have been awarded funding from The National Lottery Community Fund to benefit Hounslow residents with sight loss.

Main duties of the job

• One of the Two Eye Care Liaison Officers (ECLOs), who will provide an important bridge between health and social services in addition to support and wellbeing of patients throughout the sight loss pathway.
• Increasing awareness through events, talks and workshops and support an increase in the number of Certificates of Visual Impairment (CVI) received by the borough.
• Providing emotional support, information, and guidance face to face, via the phone and by digital platforms as required. Supporting people affected by sight loss to identify their needs, access information, and make informed choices which enable and empower them to maintain their independence.

Knowledge and Skills Required

• Working on your own initiative
• Excellent organisational skills
• Confident user of multiple IT systems

The Hill Group are still looking to recruit a Business Admin Apprenticeships locally (Brentford and Lampton). Based in Brentford it is an excellent opportunity for young residents who may not usually access apprenticeships due to lack of qualifications. This exciting local apprenticeship opportunity at Boston Manor Park is still open for applications. RSBC are very excited to announce that they are collaborating with one of the largest global tech companies to deliver a series of employability workshops for blind and partially sighted young people aged 18-25.

Project 11 will start on the 17 November and run-on Thursdays for six monthly in person sessions. This is a fantastic opportunity for oung people to get some hands-on experience in the tech industry and meet other VI young people with similar interests.

These workshops have been specifically designed for blind and partially sighted young people who want to experience and meet professionals working in the tech industry. Young People will learn how to utilise a variety of social media platforms as a means to build a brand or find employment. You’ll also be able to network with industry experts and have first-hand conversations with leaders in the tech industry to learn what they look for in an employee.

Participants must be be able to commit to the following dates:

17 November; 19 January 2023; 16 February 2023; 16 March 2023; 13 April 2023; May 2023 TBC.
