Welcome to the Twenty Fourth Edition of our Children's Centres' Newsletter!

Welcome to the latest edition of our Children's Centres' Newsletter.  We hope that you all had a good summer and are looking forward to what autumn brings.

We have been working hard putting together our new timetables and as you will see, we have some exciting new sessions on offer.  We are really pleased to be working in partnership with Kew Gardens who will be delivering some outreach sessions at Brentford Children's Centre as well as Dance Umbrella, who will be running a weekly dance class in each of our localities.  On Tuesday, 13 September we will be running a Family Fun Day at Crane Park Children's Centre - there are more details in the timetable for the West below.  We are also working with West Middlesex Hospital, who will be increasing the number of antenatal classes that they are running in our centres, as well as introducing some new sessions to support infant feeding.  You can find out more by looking at our timetables below - though the timings of these sessions haven't been finalised and we will be adding them on once agreed.

We hope to see you in our Children's Centres soon!

Monthly Mindfulness Activity

With 'World Gratitude Day' coming up this month, we thought it would be a perfect opportunity to do a fun, gratitude activity.

Painting Gratitude Stones

Painting gratitude stones is a fun way to get crafty by doing something for others. You can encourage children to pass out these gratitude stones to people they are grateful for in their lives.

Information on Childcare and Education

Image of child with thumbs up

Thinking about childcare this September?

Childminders, nursery and pre-school staff are able to provide a safe and happy environment where children can learn and develop. These early years settings are wonderful places for children to learn and have fun with friends.

Early education supports children’s development and their overall wellbeing and helps to give them a routine. Children learn faster between 0 and 5 years old than at any other time in life which is why it is so important that children do not miss out on time in an early years setting.  It really helps children get ready for school.  Children who go to early years settings do better at school than those who don’t.

Did you know that some 2 year olds can get up to 15 hours a week free or funded childcare and early learning at an Ofsted registered private day nursery, pre-school or with a childminder? Check here to see if you qualify www.hounslow.gov.uk/free2 or call Hounslow’s Family Information Service 020 8583 3470.

All 3 and 4 year olds, regardless of the parents’ immigration status, can get up to 15 hours free and funded education each week for 38 weeks from the term after their third birthday. For more information please go to www.hounslow.gov.uk/free15

Working parents of 3 and 4 year olds may be entitled to an additional 15 hours of free and funded childcare each week (1,140 hours per year).  You may be able to get free and funded childcare for 51 weeks if you use fewer than 30 hours per week. Check with your childcare provider to find out if this is something they offer.  To find out more visit: www.hounslow.gov.uk/30hours

If you need any help to find a childcare place, please contact the Family Information Service on 020 8583 3470. Alternatively, you can email them at fis@hounslow.gov.uk

COVID-19 Information

Get Boosted Now

Anyone aged 16+ can get their booster 3 months after their second vaccine dose.

How: You can book appointments online and attend a walk-in clinic.

For more information on when and how to get your booster jab, please go to the London Borough of Hounslow's dedicated web pages

First and Second Doses - Get Vaccinated Now

If you have not had your vaccine yet, you're still eligible and can book anytime. How you get a COVID vaccine and how many doses you receive depends on your age and the following conditions:

People aged 12 and over can get a 1st and 2nd dose of a vaccine.

Children aged 5 and over will soon be offered a first dose of the vaccine.

People aged 16 and over

If you're aged 16 or over you can:

  • book appointments online.
  • attend a walk-in clinic to get a vaccine without an appointment

Children aged 12 to 15

Most children aged 12 to 15 can:

  • get their COVID-19 vaccine at school
  • book appointments online
  • attend a specific 12-15 year old walk in clinic.

People with a weakened immune system

A third dose of a COVID-19 vaccine is being offered to people aged 12 and over who had a weakened immune system when they had their first two doses.

How: If you're eligible for a third dose, the NHS will let you know when and where to have the vaccine.

Information:  A third dose is different from the booster as this is administered with a shorter gap (min. 8 weeks post second dose) to give a better immune response from those who are immunocompromised.
