Five minutes with Councillor Shivraj Grewal
Councillor Shivraj Grewal is the Cabinet Member for Communities and Equalities and represents Heston Central ward. Here are five things you might not have known about him:
He has lived in the borough for 30 years and one of his favourite things about it is the fantastic transport links, with it having great access to key destinations such as Heathrow and central London.
He thinks that you can’t beat Hounslow as a borough, in terms of such a great range of diversity; with so many different cultures and races living together. As Cabinet member for Communities and Equalities he thinks he has found the perfect role to celebrate diversity and build on it so that everyone has equal opportunities of access to everything that Hounslow has to offer.
His favourite place to visit in the borough is Osterley Park because it is so relaxing, the house has such a fascinating history and its convenient, being close to where he lives. Cllr Grewal is also passionate about green spaces generally in the borough.
He is a fierce supporter of small and local businesses. If he could change one thing about the borough it would be that more local businesses are encouraged to return and put up a challenge to the larger shopping malls. He hopes that the cinema re-opening in Hounslow Town Centre is a great thing as it will encourage more people to the area, and they will visit local businesses.
He has worked in a variety of jobs, currently being a gas safe engineer, running his own company. One of his career highlights was when he worked for Gate Gourmet on a British Airways contract, as an Aircraft Catering Executive. He got to be around the world-famous and iconic, Concord aeroplanes, before they were taken out of service in 2002.

Roadworks on the A4 Great West Road, between Hogarth and Chiswick Roundabouts
From 5 August to the end of December, essential maintenance and refurbishment works will take place on the Cromwell Road Railway Bridge – between Hogarth Roundabout and Chiswick Roundabout – on the A4 Great West Road. The works will improve the long-term condition of the bridge, road and pavements and will avoid the need for more disruptive and expensive repairs at a later date.
At times traffic lanes on the A4 will close, and at other times close the road fully in one direction between Chiswick roundabout and Hogarth roundabout. These closures will at times affect the M4 between junction 3 and Chiswick roundabout. All full directional closures will take place overnight or at weekends when there is less traffic. On weekdays, there will be at least one lane open for traffic in both directions at all times.

Bridging the gap
A stunning new footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists using the Thames Path through Dukes Meadows has reached a major milestone with the installation of the 30m long central span.
The Dukes Meadows Footbridge project will provide walkers and cyclists with an uninterrupted journey through one of Hounslow’s most scenic areas.
Until now, visitors enjoying this idyllic stretch of the 185-mile Thames Path have had to take a long detour to get around the Grade II listed Barnes Railway Bridge.
The eye-catching new walkway means visitors can continue to enjoy the natural environment along the banks of the river.

Staying safe in Hounslow
A group of local young people met Deputy Leader Katherine Dunne and Cabinet member for Safety Ajmer Grewal this week, to present and discuss a People and Places of Safety map they have produced.
Hounslow Young Facilitators are a team of 34 young people, aged 11-19, from nine different schools and colleges from across the borough. The map is the culmination of a long-term project that started in November 2021 in association with Participation People. The team explored perceptions and insights into the people and places of safety across Hounslow.
The event also offered a snapshot of the group’s hopes and aspirations around the concept of community safety, and how we could all work together to make Hounslow a safer place to live, work and study.
The map will be displayed at libraries across the borough including Hounslow House.
