Hounslow leads the way with new urban forest mapping technology
Have you ever wondered how old a tree is? Or wanted to check a species while out for a walk?
Now, for the first time ever, Hounslow’s trees will be mapped online for residents to explore in a new interactive website.
Greentalk will help residents connect with and explore vast range of trees across the borough's parks and open spaces.
Hounslow has over 120,000 trees of more than 350 species which are owned and managed by the Council – and that number is always growing.
The new Greentalk interactive website – the first Council website of its kind - will provide residents with unique in-depth details about their trees including species, age, height, how rare or common the tree is, and who is responsible for pruning, watering and general maintenance.
The interactive map allows you to explore the greenest nature walks nearby or create a route from any starting point. The website will soon feature opportunities for residents to leave comments or ‘likes’ and send feedback to the council and even the opportunity to adopt a favourite tree.
2022 elections - Proposed polling station changes
The Council is calling on residents to take part in consultation on new proposed polling places to make voting easier and more accessible to all our residents.
Next year, the borough will be divided into 22 wards, an increase of two. As all ward boundaries in Hounslow will change in 2022, the Council must conduct a full polling district and polling place review.
The consultation, which closes on 25 August 2021, is an opportunity to feed back on proposed stations, and for residents to use their local knowledge to shape where they vote.
The Council welcomes all residents' views, and particularly the views of disabled residents, or any person or body with expertise in access for people with any type of disability on its proposals, and the Returning Officer’s representation or any other matter relating to the electoral process.
Please note that this consultation is regarding polling stations only and not ward boundaries. Those have now been reviewed and agreed upon by the Local Government Boundary Commission of England (LGBCE).
Art ‘binned’ to boost recycling in Brentford
School children in Brentford are spreading a 'protect our planet' message with their artwork on our waste and recycling bins.
Pupils from the Green Dragon Primary School joined forces with Hounslow Council to encourage local people to reduce, reuse and recycle and help protect the environment.
Hounslow Council wanted to tackle the issue as residents living on the Green Dragon Lane Estate were dumping their rubbish instead of recycling.
The Council is encouraging all members of the community to use the recycling bins properly by:
- Not using the bins for business waste.
- Putting all materials in the correct bin
- Not just leaving items beside the bins - it's fly-tipping!
Watermans Park play area - Join the online update
We have wonderful parks and open spaces in Hounslow, and during the pandemic it became more evident than ever just how much you value them. Investment in our parks and open spaces is one of our key priorities, as these spaces are a vital way to support community health and wellbeing.
Watermans Park is an important asset for local residents who use the park for lots of different recreational activities. It is also a valuable green space in tackling the climate change emergency. Planned developments on site give opportunities to improve the park and its infrastructure.
Residents were recently given the opportunity to share their thoughts via a questionnaire on the value of the park and the play area and suggest improvements.
This has helped us develop improvement plans that are based on community need and which will develop this green space as a great community hub.
Join us virtually on Thursday 15 July at 7pm until 8.30pm, for the chance to hear and see our plans for the park.
Support for Hounslow businesses extended

Participants can also take advantage of specialist one-to-one support, as well as in-depth tools and advice.
Hounslow Council has partnered with CPG Executive Consulting, Hounslow Chamber of Commerce and Branduin and Smarter Society to deliver the innovative free programme of support.

Invitation to 'masterplan workshops' for Hounslow and Brentford town centres
We are pleased to invite interested residents, organisations and businesses to join us in developing town centre masterplans for Hounslow and Brentford.
We thank those been involved in the development of town centre vision documents for Hounslow, Feltham, Brentford and Chiswick which have created a strong framework for the direction of travel for each centre and how assets can be enhanced to benefit residents and the economy.
Those emphasise Hounslow’s position as the civic heart of the borough, Feltham’s green spaces, Brentford’s waterways and architecture, and Chiswick’s special mix of independent shops and dining destinations. They set out a range of short and long term partnership projects to realise these visions. We will publish them shortly, and set out the next steps for working on them with all stakeholders.
We are now working on masterplans for Hounslow and Brentford town centres which respond to objectives set out in the vision documents.
We are pleased to invite you to attend a stakeholder engagement workshop to help develop these masterplans. At the workshops we will test initial ideas about the priorities for each of the centres and how they might be enhanced in the future. We will discuss key themes such as transport, public realm and the activities and uses we would like to see in each town centre.
There will be one workshop for Brentford, and one for Hounslow. The workshops will take place on:
Brentford - Wednesday 21 July at 5.30pm to 7pm
Hounslow - Thursday 22 July at 6.00pm to 7.30pm
Please book your place via Eventbrite – joining details for the meeting will be sent nearer the time. Please do forward onto any others you feel might be interested in attending, we are looking forward to hearing from our resident and business communities as these documents develop over the coming months.
