To mark the fourth anniversary of the Grenfell tragedy, the Council will light Hounslow House green on Monday 14, June.
Cllr Katherine Dunne, Cabinet Member for Communities and Climate Emergency, said: “We can never forget the horrific and devastating Grenfell Tower fire. On this anniversary our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those that lost their lives along with the whole Grenfell community.
“As a mark of remembrance on the fourth anniversary of the fire, Hounslow will join other public bodies and light Hounslow House in green.
“We would also like to express our gratitude to all those who supported the emergency response efforts.”
Loneliness Awareness Week
Loneliness Awareness Week will take place from 14 to 18 June. Hosted by Marmalade Trust, it's a campaign that raises awareness of loneliness and gets people talking about it.
After a year of lockdowns, social distancing, and restrictions, more of us are experiencing loneliness than ever, which is having a great impact on our physical and mental wellbeing.
The Marmalade Trust is working to reduce the stigma around loneliness by encouraging conversation about it and accepting loneliness exists.
Research shows that it’s a common misconception that loneliness is limited to older people. In fact, it’s now young people aged 16-24 who are the loneliest age group in the UK. Find out more about how you can tackle loneliness.

25 new council homes unveiled at Barnham Court in Feltham
Twenty five new homes were recently completed as part of Hounslow Council’s redevelopment of the Sparrow Farm Community Centre.
The much-needed two and three-bedroom properties are available for social rent for residents on the Council’s housing waiting list, and three of the homes have been designed to accommodate wheelchair users. As part of the redevelopment, the brand-new Passer Court Community Centre has also opened its doors. Situated next door to Barnham Court, the centre can host up to 300 people for a variety of events including weddings, parties, meetings, knitting circles and reading groups. Barnham Court’s residents gathered with councillors on Thursday (3 June) to mark the completion of the homes and officially open the community centre.
Hounslow announced as having best roads in London
Hounslow’s roads are the best in London, according to a newly released report.
Thanks to residents who have been actively reporting potholes, and over £100m invested from the Council since 2013, Hounslow roads and footways have emerged in pole position.
The annual State of the City Report provides key information on all 32 London boroughs and reveals the best and worst in its annual report.
Hounslow was found to have the lowest backlog of potholes to fix, which is vital for keeping our borough moving and the economy thriving.
Take action and reduce your risk during Diabetes Week
Hounslow is supporting Diabetes Week from 14 to 20 June. The campaign is led by Diabetes UK and aims to raise awareness of the condition and what changes people can make in order to reduce their risk.
There are two types of diabetes – Type 1 and Type 2. In the UK, around 90 per cent of all adults with diabetes have Type 2 and the disease afflicts more people in the UK than any other serious health condition. It can have a major impact on a person’s day-to-day life and at an advanced stage, can cause a host of other health complications.
According to Diabetes UK:
- Each year in the UK, 24,000 people with diabetes die early
- Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness in people of working age in the UK
- Over 100 amputations are carried out every week on people with diabetes because of complications connected with their condition. Up to 80 per cent of these are preventable.
However, research has consistently shown that diabetes can often be prevented or managed with combined lifestyle interventions - including diet, physical activity and sustained weight loss. Knowledge of the causes of diabetes is crucial to reducing the risk of becoming a diabetic. Find out how you can reduce your risk here.

This Girl Can Week
Sport England's 'This Girl Can' is the first campaign of its kind to feature women of all shapes, sizes and sporting abilities that sweat and jiggle as they exercise.
From 12 - 19 June, Hounslow Council will join the rest of the UK in celebrating all of the women who have kept active and inspire more women across the borough to be more physically active.
Some women feel judged when doing physical activity and so this campaign seeks to empower as many women as possible to explore and find activities that they can enjoy to help them to keep active regardless of how they look or what others may think.
Whether you are looking for ways to get more active or you want to try something new, why not head to One You Hounslow's website for inspirations.
