Hounslow backs Keep Britain Tidy's million-mile mission
Over the last year outdoor spaces have mattered to us more than ever, so this spring Hounslow is proudly taking part once again in the Keep Britain Tidy, Great British Spring Clean.
We are asking residents to do their bit and become a Litter Hero, by pledging to clear up litter during the campaign which runs from 28 May to 13 June.
Help take care of the environment while boosting your own physical and mental wellbeing and help Keep Britain Tidy reach their goal of a million miles of litter picking.
If you are taking part in a litter pick, please continue to stay safe and follow the latest COVID-19 guidance. Don't forget Hands, Face, Space!
Don't forget to record your pick via the Keep Britain Tidy website.
If you are passionate about the environment and helping to keep Hounslow clean and green, why not sign up to become one of our Environmental Champions. Join a network of motivated volunteers and find out how you can work together with support of the Council.
If you have any questions about how to get involved in Hounslow please email Cleaner.Greener@hounslow.gov.uk.
After completing your litter pick please help us dispose of the waste correctly by leaving your rubbish bags next to a nearby bin. Then use the Fix My Street app to report the waste for collection and clearly indicate on the online form it was part of the Keep Britain Tidy Spring Clean.
New hidden homes amongst Green Dragon Lane estate £9.5 million makeover
As part of Green Dragon Lane estate’s £9.5 million transformation, 11 hidden homes have been created from vacant mezzanine areas within each of the 6 Brentford Towers.
These four 4-bedroom, five 2-bedroom, and two 1-bedroom flats, delivered by the Council’s development team, will provide much needed council homes for those people waiting on the council’s waiting housing register.
Mr Kiala, a tenant who has been allocated one of the hidden homes, said: I love the brand new 2 bedroom property, the way the flat has been designed really suits a family. Having a playground right outside is such a bonus for my son to be able to play in. My family and I have been waiting for a property for a long time as we were previously living in a one-bedroom property which was overcrowded. I am really grateful to the Council.”
The Council has delivered this programme of improvement works with a total investment of around £9.5m.

CyberSprinters - helping young people stay safe online
CyberSprinters, a new online game to help primary schools, clubs and youth groups teach children about cyber security from an early age. It is a free interactive game, developed by the National Cyber Security Centre – a part of GCHQ, aimed at 7 to 11-year-olds, and is available now. It is designed to make learning about cyber security fun and interactive at a time when children begin to seek more independence online.
The online game sees players become a ‘cybersprinter’ who races against its depleting battery power. Users win battery power by correctly answering questions about cyber security but face losing it if they bump into ‘cybervillains’.
The game sits alongside a pack of educational resources which illustrate what good cyber security practice looks like, from creating strong passwords to being vigilant about receiving messages from unknown senders. The content is based on expert cyber security advice provided by cross-governmental Cyber Aware campaign, which helps people protect themselves from common cyber threats.
