At the Hounslow Council Cabinet meeting on 19 March, a new approach was approved for improving the borough's street scene.
The paper sets out a new strategy that takes account of the Mayor of London's Environment Strategy and the DEFRA Resources and Waste Strategy. The plan outlined has been shaped through working closely with residents of Hounslow, to understand their needs, customs and habits, to develop an approach the improves service delivery, gets people on board and establishes new 'norms' that can be rolled out effectively across the borough.
The council is currently developing a far-reaching campaign aimed to deliver real improvement to Hounslow's street scene, including a redesign of the bulky waste collection service and targeted action on fly tipping. The importance of working with residents to deliver these improvements is well understood.
Councillor Guy Lambert, Cabinet Member for Highways, Recycling and Trading Companies at Hounslow Council said:
“We all love clean streets and want to live in a borough where people take pride and work together to achieve a cleaner, greener borough.
“This new strategy aims to improve the borough's street scene, increase recycling rates and change people’s behaviour for the better, through working directly with the community.
“But aims are not enough: I am personally committed, as are the excellent officers who work on this, and the many enthusiastic residents who already work alongside us to bring progress, to making a visible improvement to cleanliness over the coming months.”
