Hounslow recycles

Reduce, reuse and recycle right!

Chrismas food

Reduce your food waste this Christmas by ensuring your fridge is set to the right temperature. As many models of fridge don’t have a temperature display, Love Food Hate Waste has developed an app called ChilltheFridgeOut.com to enable the public to regulate their fridges ensuring they are set below 5°C, at which temperature food will last on average for three days longer.

Transform your Christmas dinner leftovers into delicious modern dishes to excite even the most jaded palate! You'll find a great range of recipes to give you ideas on: www.lovefoodhatewaste.com

For all food you can't use, put it in your food caddy. If you don't have a food caddy, you can order one free of charge by visiting https://www.hounslow.gov.uk/recycling

wrap

Avoid shiny, glitter or foil wrapping as it can't be recycled. Before recycling, remove any shiny tape and decorations such as ribbons and bows as these cannot be recycled. Wrapping paper can only be recycled if it passes the scrunch test (scrunch the paper in your hand and if it stays a ball, it can be recycled). Paper wrapping can be recycled in your blue box, but foil or glitter-decorated paper cannot and needs to go in the general waste.

Cut or tear off the glitter section of greeting cards and put in the blue box, or save them and create gift tags from them for next year.
