National Fitness Day 2024

18 September

National Fitness Day is the UK's biggest celebration of Health and Fitness. It is an annual campaign by 'ukactive' to highlight, and raise the profile of, the role Physical Activity plays in supporting us to live happy and healthy lives.

This year's theme mirrors last years, of 'Your Health is for Life' encouraging people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to recognise and celebrate the life-long physical and mental benefits of being active.

Why not kickstart your own fitness journey today?

Our fully funded, 10-week beginner 'Get Active' courses are a gentle introduction into regular exercise. We have a range of beginner classes led by qualified instructors - there is something for everyone!

Parkrun milestone

nicky3

Congratulations to Nicky who has taken part in 200 Parkruns!

Nicky joined our Learn to Run course back in June 2018 and soon after completing started going along to Horsham Parkrun on a Saturday morning. He joined the course after having a Wellbeing MOT with an Advisor and decided he wanted to lose weight and keep fit. Nicky knew about Parkrun and wanted to get involved so thought our course would be a good starting point.

Talking about his experience of the course Nicky said: “I liked everything about the course…and at the end I felt great and was very happy to complete and felt much fitter…I have now lost over a stone”.

Nicky went along to his first Parkrun in August 2018 with others that graduated from his Learn to Run group and has been regularly attending ever since. He runs with a friend who he met at Parkrun and is now working towards improving his time and reaching the next milestone of 250 Parkruns, at which point he gets a fancy 250 Parkrun t-shirt!

Our next Learn to Run course starts this month in Horsham Park and aims to help you go from walking to jogging over a 10-week period. There are no expectations in terms of reaching a certain distance or time by the end, it’s all about giving you the confidence to be active in a friendly and supportive environment. Every week is different and it’s all about having fun, you might even forget you are exercising!

We asked Nicky what he would say to someone who was thinking about signing up to the course but wasn’t sure. He said “If you want to get fit and get into running, I would highly recommend the Learn to Run course. It motivates you to keep going and you learn a lot. It’s a 10 out of 10 from me!”

Weight Off Workshops - September

WOW

Spaces are still available for our popular Weight off Workshops starting in September.

All groups will include private weekly weigh ins, toolbox, food diaries and weekly group workshops. Some groups will also include a gentle introduction to exercise.

We have courses starting in CowfoldHorsham and Southwater.

If you're ready to stop the yo-yo dieting, get active and commit to making sustainable changes, we think you'll love WOW.

"I’d really recommend the course to anyone struggling with weight loss on their own, it’s far easier in a group with everyone supporting each other. Recording your food intake and then being advised of healthier options was certainly extremely useful."

Around a third of people in the UK have high blood pressure, but most don’t know it. It doesn’t have any symptoms so the only way to find out is to have a blood pressure check. Horsham Wellbeing deliver blood pressure checks at the Wellbeing Hub as part of our 1-1 Wellbeing appointments.
