Dry January

Alcohol has been described as the UK’s favourite coping mechanism. Many of us drink to help manage stress, anxiety, depression and many other problems. Although we may feel short term relief, alcohol actually makes our symptoms worse.

Dry January is the UK’s one-month alcohol-free challenge run by Alcohol Change UK. An alcohol-free month has lots of benefits and can help lower blood pressure and cholesterol, help you sleep better, lose weight and save you money.

Going sober is also a good way to reset your relationship with alcohol and drink more healthily year-round.

You can sign up at Alcohol Change UK or you can download the Dry January app to keep track on your progress throughout the month.

Alcohol Support Service

Is drink sneaking up on you?

Lucy and Sam

Lucy and Sam, our friendly Alcohol Advisors

"I feel so much better now after cutting down. I didn't want to stop drinking fully, but I knew I needed to do something. I'd strongly suggest if you are worried about your drinking, don't be embarrassed to make contact. It's a very relaxed environment, and it has helped me a ton. I wish I'd made contact before, and not tried to just do it on my own!"

If you've been finding it difficult to control your drinking recently and want advice and support to cut down, we can help.

Our Alcohol Advice service provides a series of free one to one sessions to support people who feel like they may be drinking a bit too much and want to cut down to enjoy a healthier lifestyle.

Our service is confidential and non-judgmental, with no group work involved and people are not expected to stop drinking completely unless they want to. We can also offer appointments across the District to ensure the service is accessible for you.
