WOW Graduates

This month concluded the end of our latest WOW course. As ever we had some fantastic results, not only in amount of weight lost but positive impact on mood, fitness and general wellbeing. Here's what Martyn and Paul from our Horsham and Pulborough group had to say about their experience:

Martin

Martyn

'For the last 5 years I have been classed as prediabetic and I have always had difficultly controlling my weight. The opportunity to join WOW was presented to me by my GP and it sounded too good to miss. The course has been fantastic, the leaders are so enthusiastic and supportive and I have really benefitted from practising mindful eating and appreciating my food.'

Martyn lost over 8.5kg, lowered his cholesterol, blood pressure and is no longer classed as 'prediabetic'

Paul

Paul

'I felt like this was my last chance to lose weight after being diagnosed with osteopenia and gradually gaining weight each year.

The course helped me to understand food combinations and pushed me to plan my meals and grocery shopping which has actually reduced my food bill. I have started jogging and after 10 weeks have lost over a stone. I still have a way go but I've now started my journey.'

Learn To Run

Runners in Horsham Park

Learn to Run is a free step-by-step course for people who aren't already active and need a little help to get started, aiming to help you go from walking to jogging over a 10 week period.

There are absolutely no expectations in terms of reaching a particular distance or running for a set time by the end of the course, we encourage everyone to go at their own pace.

Sessions comprise of a warm up, main activity, cool down and stretch to finish. Rest assured it won't just be running loops around the park; we recognise variety is important when trying to maintain interest and motivation (you might even forget you are exercising!).

Starting:

Wednesday 20th September 6-7pm in Horsham Park

Walkers

Wellbeing Walks

Walking can be a great way to get away from it all. It can also be a fun way to spend time with friends or meet new ones.

We have guided 'Wellbeing Walks' all over the district, so you're sure to find one to suit you.

Each month we publish a new walking guide with a choice of routes with varying duration and difficulty. Check out this months timetable below.

Men's Health Survey

Men's Health Survey

We would like to encourage more men to access the services offered by Horsham Wellbeing.

This is because statistically we know men are less likely to ask for medical advice or access care.

We would like honest feedback and ideas from local men about what might encourage you to get involved.

Community Food Hubs

Chanctonbury Leisure Centre will be hosting Harvest Community Food Hubs in Storrington.

Food Hubs are designed to reduce food waste by welcoming all residents to visit and pick up a selection of food for suggested donation of £3.50.

Residents will be able to bring their own bag to fill with surplus foods (largely fresh fruit & veg, bread, dried goods and some frozen) which would otherwise end up as waste from suppliers.

On the 23rd of August, we will be supporting the food hub. Why not pop down, fill a bag and find out how we can support you to improve your wellbeing?
