Council commits over half a million pounds of funding to combat cost of living crisis in Horsham District

A £250,000 cost of living action plan was announced at last week's meeting of full Council to help the District's most vulnerable residents.

The funding commitment includes £25,000 for local charity Horsham Matters (pictured here with Council Leader Jonathan Chowen at their Charities Day of Action this week), and a partnership agreement with Citizens Advice to fund two new advisors to help residents access support.

The new proposed funding is in addition to £300,000 emergency support funding which was approved in June this year, taking the total support to over £500,000.

We have commissioned Temple to establish how and where Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) can be achieved in the Horsham District.  If you are a landowner or site manager you are invited to help.

Why is BNG important?

BNG delivers measurable improvements for biodiversity by creating or enhancing habitats. Temple are looking to establish how and where BNG can be achieved in the District, in line with the Environment Act 2021.

This information will be used to help establish an appropriate BNG target for development to be included in the Local Plan.

Call for sites

We are inviting Horsham landowners to propose potential sites that would be suitable for Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) creation or enhancement. The consultation is open from 18 to 31 October.

Shipley Reliquary comes to Horsham Museum and Art Gallery

Horsham Museum & Art Gallery

The Shipley Reliquary, a fine example of Limoges enamel dating from the 13th century, is now on display at Horsham Museum and Art Gallery in their newly re-opened Medieval Gallery.

Generously loaned from Shipley Parochial Church Council, this reliquary will be one of the most historically important exhibits in the museum, attracting visitors to Horsham from all over the world. It presents an opportunity to bring to life Horsham and the District during the de Braose’s era.
