April 2021

NGW

A fresh start

As we leave March behind, spring flowers have started to bloom, the days are getting longer, and winter's chill is fading away. To celebrate 'National Gardening Week' on 29 April, we've put together some ways to improve your health and wellbeing by enjoying the outside and getting stuck into gardening.

You will receive the expert advice and support from our friendly course leaders as well as our WOW toolkit to help keep you on track (British Heart Foundation Eat Well Guide, food & exercise diary, weight tracker card, recipe and exercise booklets and a resistance band). If that wasn’t enough you will also have the option to choose a free activity/exercise session to attend on a weekly basis!

Bowel Cancer Awareness Month

April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, where Bowel Cancer UK aim to raise awareness of bowel cancer, save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer. Bowel Cancer is more common in the over 50s but it can affect people of all ages. Around 268,000 people living in the UK today have been diagnosed with the disease.

Being aware of the key symptoms and visiting your GP if things don’t feel right can help increase chances of an early diagnosis, and could save your life. It’s the UK’s second biggest cancer killer but it shouldn’t be. It’s treatable and curable especially if diagnosed early.
