Final month to access unclaimed court money
Legislation changes affect how the the Court Funds Office (CFO) holds dormant funds.
From 1 June 2024 any account that has been held dormant within the CFO for 30 years or more will be surrendered and any future right to claim the funds will be extinguished.
If you believe that you, or someone you are responsible for, may be eligible to claim an account held by the CFO for 30 years or more, submit your claim before June.
Transparency and Open Justice Board
This week the Lady Chief Justice announced the creation of a new Transparency and Open Justice Board.
The board will lead and coordinate the promotion of transparency and open justice across the courts and tribunals in England and Wales and will work in partnership with HMCTS and the Ministry of Justice.

Updated guidance on remote attendance in Crown Courts
The Better Case Management handbook has been updated to reflect a change to bail applications being heard remotely.
The guidance includes a reminder of the general conditions for remote hearings that advocates should follow.
Derby Justice Centre open day
Derby Justice Centre will be hosting an open day on Saturday 18 May 2024 from 10am to 2pm.
Visitors will have the opportunity to speak to court staff, hear from a former prisoner about their experiences, visit the holding cells, witness mock trials and more.

Probate phone line operating hours
The probate service phone line revised its operating hours in February. Following a successful trial period, the revised operating hours (9am to 1pm from Monday to Friday) will be retained until further notice. We’ll review the arrangement every six weeks.
Professional applicants can continue to contact the service via webchat, available on weekdays from 9am to 5pm.
They can also track the progress of their applications by logging on to MyHMCTS.
Submitting financial remedy applications on MyHMCTS
We’re hosting a refresher session on how to submit financial remedy applications, with a focus on uploading documents and avoiding common mistakes.
The session will take place on Wednesday 29 May at midday.
