Derby Justice Centre open day
Derby Justice Centre, on St Mary's Gate, will be hosting an open day next Saturday 18 May 2024 from 10am to 2pm.
Visitors will have the opportunity to speak to court staff, look inside a prison van, visit the holding cells, explore a family courtroom, witness mock trials and more.

Pre-Application Judicial Education Programme
The Judicial Office have announced new dates for the Pre-application Judicial Education (PAJE) programme.
The programme aims to support talented lawyers from under-represented groups to feel more equipped, confident, and prepared when applying for a future judicial role.
Applications are open until 4 June 2024 to join virtual discussion group courses in late June and early July.

As part of Juror Appreciation Week, find out how the jury selection process works in our latest blog post on Inside HMCTS. It highlights the concept of being judged by peers which dates back hundreds of years and is referenced in Magna Carta.
Jury service is one of the most important civic duties that can be asked of anyone over the age of 18. Jurors are summoned at random by the Jury Central Summoning Bureau, using electoral voting registers.
Therapy for jurors hearing difficult cases
The Ministry of Justice announced that from summer 2024, jurors who served at 15 courts across England and Wales will be offered support after their trial, as part of a new pilot.
The new pilot - which is particular aimed at people who have served on mentally or emotionally demanding trials - will provide specialist expert support for jurors offering six free counselling sessions, alongside a 24/7 telephone helpline for round-the-clock triage support, advice and information.

Leeds Business and Property Court
From Monday 13 May 2024, the Business and Property Court in Leeds will being hearing cases at its new base in West Gate, Grace Street, Leeds.
The fourth-floor suite houses four courtrooms and is situated in the same building as Leeds Employment Tribunal, where eight courtrooms are now in operation.
