Welcome to our latest update for the A31 Ringwood bridge replacement and road widening scheme.
Installation complete!
Following the successful installation of the beams for the new bridges over the River Avon and Bickerley Millstream, we’ve been able to pour the new concrete decks. And even with the recent rain, we’ve also been able to complete the waterproofing works.
Work is progressing well on the new bridges
We’re now preparing to move westbound traffic back on to the A31 westbound carriageway. One lane westbound, along with two eastbound lanes will need to remain closed to allow us to carry out barrier and drainage works in the central reservation. The Ringwood entry slip road will also remain closed until our work is complete.
We’re now preparing to move westbound traffic back on to the A31 westbound carriageway.
Upcoming works
From 6am on Sunday 23 October, we plan to open two lanes of the A31 westbound to allow us to carry out work in the central reservation.
To move our traffic management, we’ll need to close the A31 overnight. All closures will be between 8pm and 6am:
- Overnight on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 October – A31 between M27 junction 1 Cadnam and A338 Ashley Heath closed to westbound traffic
- Overnight on Sunday 23 October – A31 between A338 Ashley Heath and M27 junction 1 Cadnam closed to eastbound traffic
- Overnight from Monday 24 to Friday 28 October – Ringwood flyover closed to east and westbound traffic
When we close the Ringwood flyover, traffic will use the slips to leave and re-join the carriageway. This means the A31 Ringwood westbound entry slip road will be opened on these nights only to allow access to the A31 westbound. It will continue to be closed during the daytime, and once the flyover closures are complete, it will be closed until the end of the scheme to provide safe access to the work site.
We’ll need to close the A31 westbound again in November. Details and dates will be advertised nearer the time.
We’re still on track
Our work continues to stay on track to fully open the A31 westbound between the Ringwood and Verwood junctions before the end of November.
Meeting the community
We recently held drop-in sessions at Greyfriars Community Centre and met with several of members of the community to discuss scheme progress and next steps.
We were also at the Ringwood Carnival and engaged with more than a hundred visitors. It was great to hear your feedback, which included: “I’m looking forward to going through the new lanes,” “I was dreading these works but it has gone much better than expected. Very impressive,” and “Traffic moved well over summer – better than expected.”
