New
traffic safety system at Dartford Crossing
From 13 June
we will introduce a new traffic safety system on the A282 (M25) northbound
approach to the Dartford Crossing tunnels.
This system
will allow us to:
- identify
vehicles that may pose a safety risk, for example because they are
oversized or carrying dangerous loads
-
safely
escort such vehicles through the tunnel – or turn them around
- stop
vehicles entering the tunnels in the event of an incident
We have
installed this new system as part of changes to the road layout at the
crossing. This follows the introduction of Dart Charge in November 2014 and the
removal of the old payment booths.
Watch our
video or read our leaflet to find out more about how the new
traffic safety system will operate
Our leaflet Information for drivers of goods vehicles provides further information about the correct lane and route to
take to avoid being stopped and turned around.
