Covenant signing and charity day

The Community team is helping Hampshire County Council in organising a Veterans Charity Awareness Event alongside an Armed Forces Community Covenant signing at the Plaza on Thursday 14 November.

There will be a number of armed forces dignitaries, the Mayor of Havant and invited guests in attendance.

As part of the Veterans event the Portsmouth Military Wives Choir will be singing on the balcony, at timed intervals starting at around 1pm.

A number of serving soldiers from Thorny Island, 47th Regiment Royal Artillery will welcome people into the Plaza, showing them the way to the Veterans Charity awareness exhibition in the Hurstwood Room and the signing of the covenant in Committee Room 1.

The event will start at 12 noon and finish at around 3pm with the signing taking place between 1-2pm.

Give to the Beacon Food Bank

Food and produce are being collected again this year for the Beacon Food Bank

The Beacon Food Bank is run by Portsdown Community Church, who meet at the Beacon in the Meridian Centre. It is run on a referral system from most agencies and charities.

Last year the Beacon gave out nearly £19,000 worth of free hampers to those in need throughout the borough. Cllrs Gerald and Elaine Shimbart, Mayor and Mayoress at the time, helped to pack the hampers.
