Leigh Park Network meeting
The next Leigh Park Network meeting will be held on Thursday 10th May, 12pm - 1pm atLeigh Park Community Centre, PO9 5BG. Free parking is available at the rear of the community centre but please ensure you obtain a parking pass from reception.
If you would like to share something specific and need a guaranteed slot to promote your activity or area of work, please let Katie Bone know (contact details above) so she can book you a slot for the meeting. Following the meeting please feel free to stay and further network over tea and coffee. Please note that lunch will not be provided.
Volunteer opportunities at The Flash radio station.
Community Liaison Officer for The Flash, a community radio station based in Havant – This person will be the point of contact between us and the educational establishments, community groups, charities and local artists that we work with. He or She will work with the Programme Controller to arrange guest slots, community notices, and procure music by local performers.
A majority of these tasks could be performed from home, using a laptop and the internet, although the position will include occasional meetings and periods with the programme controller, presenters and community contacts.
The Flash has a flexible and understanding approach towards it's volunteers and would expect this post to involve at least 4 hours per week, and generally at times suitable to the applicant. Ideally we are looking for someone with experience in community/charity work, and who is computer literate. Administrative Assistant for The Flash, a community radio station based in Havant - This position will involve filtering, responding to, and re-directing e-mails on behalf of the station manager, compiling and updating our Local Live Music Gig Guide, Compiling and updating a community events calendar, preparing scripts for presenters, invoicing clients, preparing procedure documents, and may involve taking minutes at meetings.
A majority of these tasks could be performed from home, using a laptop and the internet. The Flash has a flexible and understanding approach towards its volunteers and would expect this post to involve at least 4 hours per week, and generally at times suitable to the applicant.

Community Initiative – WOMAN ONLY Self-defence course starting Wednesday 18th April.
Park Self-defence brings you ParkCAMP! a real to life course providing opportunity to understand how to assess ‘real’ threat situations and the different ways to initially remove yourself from potential harm. We demonstrate and give the opportunity for all students to try a variety of essential ‘breakaway’ and ‘counter attack’ techniques that can be used when personal safety is at risk.
This course is delivered in 6, one hour classes (6:30-7:30pm) every Wednesday evening from the 18th April to 23rd May (between the Easter and May school holidays at Park Community School).
The cost is £5 per person per class for a 6 week period, £30 total made payable either prior, at the start or during the 6 week course. The larger the group the less it will cost! and the difference will be given back at the end of the course.

Principals of Conflict Management - Conflict Management Model. Situational Awareness. Threat Assessment and Evaluation. Communication Skills.
Breakaway Skills - Releases from wrist and arm grabs. Releases from body grabs. Releases from neck and head locks. Single/double arm fend offs. Counter attack techniques. Pressure point locations.
The Law - Criminal Law Act. Common Law. Human Rights Act. Case Law.
