VE Day commemorations have begun in Gosport!
Over 30 parties are taking place around the borough - in streets, gardens, schools, churches and local clubs. Some were over the bank holiday weekend with other celebrations happening on or around Thursday 8 May, the anniversary date.
This year is extra special because it marks 80 years since Victory in Europe was declared on 8 May 1945, with Victory over Japan bringing the Second World War to an end on 15 August 1945.
To help communities mark the huge occasion, Gosport Borough Council invited bids for £100 grants, and handed out a total of £3,300 from our community fund to help with party costs.
A two-minute national silence will be held on Thursday 8 May at 12 noon, to remember and thank those who fought for our freedom.
 Park Yoga launches in Gosport
Looking to get active and meet new people? Come along to Park Yoga, free and open to everyone in Walpole Park (south) every Sunday morning, 9.30am to 10.30am throughout the summer.
All abilities welcome, from beginners to experts.
It's been made possible thanks to a partnership between Gosport Borough Council and Love Outdoors CIC, funded by a council community fund grant.
Over 70 people joined a fun-filled first Park Yoga on Sunday 4 May, pictured, and it's hoped the morning sessions will continue to grow in popularity.

We are building Gosport's first new council homes in many years, and completion is getting close!
We're creating a total of 15 new homes in three locations - Wheelers Close, Stoners Close and Glebe Drive.
The main structure of the buildings at all the sites is nearly complete, with construction of the roof structures currently taking place.
We expect construction to finish this autumn - creating a mix of four, three, two and one-bedroom properties that will be made available for local families on our council homes waiting list.
Gosport Marine Festival takes place on Saturday 17 May. It's a fun day for all that has been running for over ten years and celebrates marine activities, heritage and culture in Gosport.
On Walpole Park’s boating lakes there are walk-up, have-a-go activities for all ages, including paddleboarding, kayaking and dinghy sailing.
The Portsmouth Model Boat Display Team will be putting on their popular pyrotechnic show, and over by the Harbour and in Haslar Marina there's boat trips, stalls, live music including Gosport's very own shanty festival.
Local bands will play out the festival at Millennium Timespace on Gosport Waterfront until 9pm.
The festival is provided free of charge thanks to local organisations and support from Gosport Borough Council. No need to book, just turn up!
