Community helps create a mini forest of 1,600 trees in Elson
Green-fingered children in Elson have helped to create a new mini forest for their community.
Boys and girls from Elson Primary School, 6th Gosport Scout Group and Gosport South Girl Guiding got to work to plant around 1,600 trees over two days at Elson Recreation Ground. They were helped by residents, councillors and council staff.
Gosport Borough Council received funding through the Hampshire Forest Partnership for the mini forest, which will grow and provide habitat for birds and other wildlife.
Gosport splash park at Stokes Bay seafront has been refurbished and is ready to reopen for the Easter school holiday.
The Lee splash park is also opening, and both facilities will be open daily from 10am to 6pm.
There are traditional children's play equipment next to both splash parks which are open all year round, and pay-and-display parking and public toilets nearby.
The splash parks will be available to use for free throughout the summer, with opening times extended during the summer school holidays from 10am to 7pm.

We have exciting plans to transform the old bus station site into a new People's Park on Gosport's waterfront.
A planning application has been submitted for the first part of our project, which includes a large grassed area with trees, shrubs and flowers with sea views across the waterfront, and a path crossing the park linking the promenade to the High Street walkway.
A planned second phase will include a performance area in the centre of the park to host live events, a building for cafes and bars, improved toilets and an accessible changing places facility, and a new ticket kiosk for Gosport Ferry.
The People's Park project is led by Gosport Borough Council as part of our wider programme to regenerate the waterfront.
