Popular splash parks at Lee and Gosport to re-open at Easter
The popular splash parks at Stokes Bay in Gosport and at Lee are getting ready to reopen for the Easter school holidays.
The park on the seafront at Stokes Bay is about to undergo winter repairs and refurbishment, which will include a bright, new safety surface.
The water features at both Stokes Bay and Lee splash parks are expected to be open over Easter, daily from 10am to 6pm.
The splash parks will be available to use for free throughout the summer, with opening times extended during the summer school holidays from 10am to 7pm.
The council wants to help residents to host fantastic VE Day street party commemorations in May - so we're offering grants of £100 towards the cost.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, and any residents, community groups and organisations wishing to host an event can apply for the £100. It could help towards any of the costs, for example flags, bunting, cakes or ice creams.
You will need to apply for the grant by Friday 4 April, along with any necessary road closures at the very latest.
Huge investment has been agreed to improve council homes, waste collections, and sport and leisure facilities across the borough.
Gosport Borough Council approved a budget for 2025/26 including a capital budget of £25.9m, made up council capital funds and outside funding.
Exciting projects include:
- Up to £1m for creating brand new community sports and leisure facilities, including £500,000 towards a new artificial football pitch at Privett Park, and £75,000 for sports facilities in the Lee area.
- £193,000 to upgrade tennis courts, to create new pickleball facilities and for new cricket nets all at Privett Park; as well as new rugby posts and a new running track at Gosport Park; and for new floodlighting at Bridgemary skateboard park.
- An extra £2.6m for the £3.7m project already underway to turn the former bus station into a waterfront 'People's Park'
- £3.3m to improve the condition of existing council homes for local families.
- £0.375m towards the £1.4m project to restore the Criterion in Forton Road as a new community cinema, theatre and live entertainment venue.
Gosport Council is working hard to improve Gosport's appearance by planting hundreds of new trees.
Sadly someone has chopped down some trees planted at Bridgemary Park and Grove Road Recreation Ground recently. We are looking at CCTV footage to try to identify those responsible, if anyone has any information on this incident, please contact in confidence police or the council's Streetscene team by emailing streetscene@gosport.gov.uk
The vandalised trees were funded from the Forestry Commission’s Urban Tree Challenge Fund to add more trees to urban and residential areas of Gosport.

We need your help to identify sites that might be suitable for development as we work on a Gosport Borough Local Plan.
The local plan identifies sites for housing, employment and other land uses as well as protecting the borough's important open space, nature conservation and heritage features. The plan would last until 2040 and helps to offer protection for land and areas not suitable for building on.
We've launched a call for sites and want people and organisations to put forward areas that could be developed on, and those that should stay as they are. Please nominate a site below before the deadline of Friday 9 May 2025.
From 1 April, properties which are furnished but not lived in as someone’s main residence will be subject to a premium charge for council tax. This means that double the full council tax will be due.
There are some exceptions for both second homes and long term empty properties (those that are unfurnished and have been empty for over 12 months).
Details of the exceptions can be found on our website. Applications to claim an exemption can be made on our website after 1 April.
