Hundreds more Gosport homes better protected from flooding
A newly completed coastal defence scheme means more Gosport homes and businesses are better protected from flooding.
A new 240m concrete wall has been created at the western edge of Forton Lake, protecting over 200 homes, 16 businesses as well as part of St Vincent College.
Gosport Borough Council, through Coastal Partners, secured the funding needed and carried out the important scheme, which was finished in December.
To ensure the services our residents rely on are maintained, the council has agreed to raise our share of Council Tax by 2.99 per cent.
The average Gosport household (band B) will pay 11p a week extra and the change has been agreed because of continual rises in ours costs, as well as a reduction to our funding from Government.
Gosport Borough Council's share of Council Tax makes up 12% of your overall bill and enables us to deliver important services, including waste and recycling collection, street cleaning, and maintaining and improving parks and green spaces.
Gosport has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to revitalise and maximise the potential of the town's waterfront and we want your views!
With the help of funding from the UK Government through the Levelling Up Fund, we're hoping to make a real impact on regenerating and reconnecting our historic waterfront over the next few years.
We are looking for feedback on:
- What would help you access and enjoy our historic waterfront
- A new name, look and feel for proposed waterfront routes
- Where public interventions and installations could make a difference
Runners are already benefiting from a new track in Gosport Park.
The 400m grass track has been created by the council around the existing rugby pitch, and is already providing popular with all ages.
Gosport Road Runners, Absolute 545 RunClub and Fareham Running Club are among those already putting the facility to use, while youth running club Runner Beans are also training on it.
The track runs around the raised bowl of what was a former asphalt cycle track, and uses the existing floodlights so it can be trained on at night.
