Summer Passport registrations are now open for sign ups on the button below. Updates will be provided on Gosport Passport Scheme on Facebook.
Vital affordable housing is being built by Gosport Borough Council.
In total 15 new council houses are being created for local people and families to rent at an affordable rate.
The homes are being built in three locations: Seven at Stoners Close (a mix of four and three-bedroom homes), three at Glebe Drive (all two-bedroom), and five at Wheeler Close (a mix of two and one-bedroom). All three locations are currently underused former garage sites considered ideal for the new homes, and will improve the appearance of each site.
Construction will start soon and take around a year to complete. They will be the first new council homes in Gosport since 2016, and let at an affordable rate. The properties will be allocated to people already on the housing register, in accordance to Gosport Borough Council's allocation policy.
The project will provide brand new housing for Gosport families and individuals and help tackle the shortage of local affordable housing.
The council is working with contractor PMC Ltd to deliver the new homes. An information event was recently held for neighbouring residents of the three areas.
The council is also supporting the creation of new Thorngate Churcher Trust supported living accommodation in the town.
Thorngate has begun constructing the 30 warden-assisted flats on the corner of Grove Road and Sealark Road. It will provide modern, safe and comfortable homes for people over 50 who require assisted living, expected to be ready by 2025.
You can now pay with cash and card at all council car parks
All car parks operated by Gosport Borough Council now accept cash, card or phone payment, giving greater flexibility to drivers.
Payment machines have been reinstated in the 12 car parks where they were removed in early 2023, as part of a move to switch to phone or app payment only, using the MiPermit app.
Though the use of MiPermit for parking has increased, contactless card payment continues to be the preferred option, with cash still accounting for around 25% of car park income. The move fulfils a commitment made by council to restore card and cash payments for people's convenience.
The new or refurbished machines are now in place, and in addition, brand new payment machines have replaced old ones in the eight busiest car parks.
Drivers can continue to park in the town centre short-stay car park for free for the first hour.
Work to restore the cremation garden at Anns Hill Cemetery will soon start
The current grass surface is uneven and difficult to maintain to a good standard. The project, led by Gosport Borough Council, will replace the surface with decorative stone chippings, improving the look of the cremation garden and making it easier to maintain.
All memorials will be carefully lifted and securely stored while the resurfacing takes place, before being professionally reinstated. Grave owners have been informed.
The work is due to start on Monday 24 June and is expected to be completed within 15 working days. Access to the cremation garden will be restricted during the restoration.
Electric vehicle charging points installed in seven car parks
Electric car drivers can now charge their vehicles in a number of council-owned car parks.
A mixture of fast and rapid charge points have been added to these seven locations: Beach Road Car Park, Pebble Beach Car Park, Walpole Car Park, Green Lane Car Park, Marine Parade Car Park, Battery West, Battery East.
The charging points are operated by Beleiv, who installed them at no cost to the council.
Gardening forks at the ready - a brand new allotment site at Manor Way in Lee-on-the-Solent has opened. The 60 new plots have been allocated to green-fingered residents who are already putting them to use.
The new facility will have an on-site trading store being run by the Gosport Allotment Association, offering members a discount on seeds, compost and horticultural goods.
It means more adults and children will come together to learn how to grow their own food while enjoying nature.
The use of allotments is hugely popular in the borough - Manor Way is the 11th site run by Gosport Borough Council. The new plots were allocated to people already on a waiting list, which has been eased by the opening of this new facility.
