Change of Process regarding the Young People’s Substance Misuse Referral Form
Please note that the Young People’s Substance Misuse Referrals are now managed on behalf of Gloucestershire County Council by Prospects Youth Support Team. The team works with approximately 6,000 vulnerable young people (aged 10 – 18 and up to 25 for young people with a special educational need or disability) in the county, targeting specific groups who are most at risk of not making a successful transition into adulthood. This includes young offenders and those on the edge of the criminal justice system, looked after children and care leavers over the age of 16, unemployed young people, homeless young people, teenage parents, young people who run away from home or care, young people with disabilities and/or learning difficulties and young people with substance misuse issues or other health needs.
Sometimes it can be difficult for young people to get the specialist health advice and support that they need.
In the Youth Support Team we are able to refer the young people we work with, if they want it, to a range of specialist health professionals, including substance misuse, so that they can be seen quickly. All of the health services that we provide are free and confidential.
BEATING SUBSTANCE MISUSE
Our dedicated team provides individual support, helping young people to reduce drug or alcohol misuse (tier 3) and the risks associated with it.

Please replace any previous versions of the Young People's Substance Misuse Referral Form with this new version.

Why language matters: "hidden" in plain sight
NSPCC Learning has released a new blog as part of a series looking at the importance of language in safeguarding, focusing on the use of the terms like “hidden men” and “invisible fathers”. The blog discusses how fathers and male caregivers are often overlooked by services, and how using alternative phrases such as “unseen men” can prompt professionals to think about how they could identify the men in a child’s life and consider any support or protection needs. Tackling Child Exploitation Programme
The Tackling Child Exploitation programme are running a second round of consultation events in October and November. This is an exciting opportunity for all safeguarding professionals across all agencies to take part and share their views on the draft Practice Principles for responding to Child Exploitation and Extra-Familial Harm.
The events offer an opportunity for ‘check and challenge’, to reflect insights from the earlier events in June/July and explore how the principles could be useful.
We will be hosting 9 regional multi-agency events to explore local and regional perspectives, plus agency and role-specific events to understand views through varied lenses. In all our events, we welcome diversity of thought, experience, different backgrounds and thought processes, to enrich feedback.
CLICK HERE to see what event would be most suitable for you and book your place.
Please share with your teams, and to external partners in your local and regional areas who may be interested.
