Over the last 2+ years, the Public Mental Health Team at Gloucestershire County Council have been working closely with partners, stakeholders and communities to understand the impact on mental wellbeing following the changes and challenges all of us have experienced.
It has been clear that many people have struggled with their mental wellbeing and that more people are seeking support for this. It is also clear that it is important for people to receive support at a time that is right for them.
In order to help meet this need, additional funding has been allocated to enable us to commission early intervention support for mental wellbeing. This will help increase support for those in need, and reduce demand on other mental health services in the county.
Our proposal
The Gloucestershire Self-Harm Helpline (commissioned by the council) provides open access, anonymous support for anyone seeking support around self-harm, and the current contract will come to an end in March 2023. After working closely with stakeholders to develop our proposal, we are exploring whether we integrate the standalone support for self-harm into a proposed mental wellbeing helpline for adults. This new helpline would allow those aged 18 years and above in the county to get support for their self-harm alongside wider support for all aspects of their mental health and emotional wellbeing.
We are now seeking views from the public about this proposal, as we want to ensure that our future plans meet the needs of our residents.
The survey
You can find out more about the proposal and access the anonymous survey (which is available in a multitude of languages) here:

If you would like a paper copy of the survey posted out to you, please email the publichealth@gloucestershire.gov.uk team, with your name and address, and state that you're requesting a copy of the Mental Wellbeing Helpline for Adults Survey.
You can find the press release, which has more information and can be shared with your networks, here:

Please do share this email with anyone who may find it of use or interest - your family, friends, colleagues and contacts. We want to get the views and opinions from as many people (adults and young poeple) as possible from across the county. The survey will close on 20 July 2022.
Future engagement
A number of our colleagues from other areas within the Prevention Wellbeing and Communities Hub at the council are also seeking views on proposals relating to current or new services over the coming year. Please keep an eye out for other engagement exercises as your views will be appreciated.
Thanks and best wishes,
Nicky
