Linton Greenway Active Travel Path

Babraham Park & Ride to Granham's Road

The Greater Cambridge Partnership and contractors Milestone Infrastructure will be starting work to upgrade the active travel path from Babraham Road Park & Ride to Granham’s Road.
This work is part of the ongoing Linton Greenway project, designed by and with communities, to provide an active travel route from Linton into Cambridge to make it easier for walkers, cyclists and horse riders to access the city.

The works will commence on 11 April 2023 and will last for approximately 12 weeks.

What works will be done?

  • Provision of a new active travel pathway along the A1307 east from the Babraham Road Park & Ride to Granham’s Road.
  • The upgrade will focus on widening this section of the Greenway connecting the final link to previously completed sections of the shared use pathway from Addenbrooke’s to Granham’s Road, and the Babraham Road Park & Ride to the Hinton Way Roundabout.
  • To maximise the space available, seasonal hedge and arboriculture work has been undertaken as required for the new improved pathway in advance of the project commencing.
  • Provision of new signage and pathway markings to facilitate the active pathway improvements.
  • Provision of new street lighting columns set back to the rear of the pathway to create a wider pathway for shared use.

Traffic management on A1307 during construction

Unfortunately, it is not possible to undertake the pathway improvement work at this site without deploying traffic management on the A1307. Where traffic management is required to minimise disruption, the works are planned to take place during off peak times.

  • During all phases of the works the existing footpath will be closed, and a temporary footpath constructed on the opposite side of the A1307.
  • For the duration of the construction period, temporary two-way and three-way traffic lights will be required during off-peak hours (9.30 am to 3.30 pm).

How will the works affect active travel path users?

Throughout the works, a safe route for active travel path users will be created, signed, and maintained. This will involve diverting users to cross the A1307 at controlled crossing points to use the segregated pathway. In limited areas, where there is insufficient width to provide a temporary active travel path, users will be escorted past the works area.

These works will improve road safety and sustainable transport links for all road users along this section of the A1307.

We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause.
