- Enhance the look of Milton Road with improved and additional landscaping including doubling the number of trees along the road.
- Support future economic growth
Elizabeth Way/Highworth Avenue Roundabout works
Works on the Elizabeth Way/Highworth Avenue roundabout are now well underway. The old roundabout has been dug out. In the coming weeks we will start to put in the drainage and kerbs as the first phase of installing the new roundabout.
Work to remodel the roundabout is now underway
After receiving your feedback, we have changed the arrangements for pedestrian and cycle crossing on the southern arm of the Elizabeth Way roundabout. We have removed the temporary traffic lights and installed a central island of safety barriers. This has reduced congestion in this area while maintaining a safe crossing point for pedestrians and cyclists.
New arrangements for pedestrian and cycle crossing on the south side of the Junction
Arbury Road/ Union Lane Junction
The works on Union Lane are progressing with the construction of the new junction being undertaken while this section of road is closed to motor traffic. Access for pedestrians and cyclists will continue to be maintained for the duration of the road closure. Union Lane will be open for motor traffic for the Christmas holidays.
Properties on the western side of Milton Road
We have started talking to residents who have homes on the western side of Milton Road, where shrubs and bushes or driveways encroached on Highway land. These discussions are ongoing and those of you who are affected by these works will be contacted by a member of the team to discuss next steps.
Mitcham’s Corner
Cambridge Water works to move the water main has now reached the Gilbert Road Junction. Once they have finished their work, we will then start our work on remodelling this section of the road. So that we can do this work safely, about half of the laybys outside the shops between Mitcham’s Corner and Gilbert Road will be taken out of use. This will allow works to take place whilst still providing parking for the shops, their customers and deliveries.
In addition, the bus stop outside these shops will be suspended when works start in the area. A temporary bus stop will be put in place.
Kings Hedges Road Junction
Early in the new year we will start works at the Kings Hedges, Milton Road, Green End Road Junction. As with the Arbury Road/Union Lane works, the new junction will be constructed in sections. We will be taking the traffic lights at this junction out of use and replacing them with a set of temporary traffic lights, which will move around as we work on different part of this junction. We expect the work to improve this junction to last for about ten months.
If you have any concerns during the construction, please do get in touch with Milestone’s project team on MiltonRoad@milestoneinfra.co.uk or telephone the 24 hour contact centre on 0800 023 4762.
