Histon Road Update June 2021

We will be resurfacing two more sections of the road in July and will be closing the road overnight (8pm to 6am) while this work is carried out. We will be resurfacing between Murkett’s Garage and Gilbert Road Junction between the 13th and 19th July, and then from Brownlow Road to Kings Hedges Road between 20th and 26th July. We would ask for residents to help by parking their vehicle away from this area and ensure they do not obstruct the cycle lane or footpath in any way. There will be signed diversion routes in place during these closures and Stagecoach will advise of changes to the bus routes nearer the time. We apologise in advance if you experience some noise during the hours of 8pm to 6am while we undertake this work and for any inconvenience caused. Letters will be sent to all homes affected by the closure

Bus Stop shelters installed

Two new bus stop shelters have been installed. Known as ‘floating’ bus stops, they are designed so that buses can stop to pick up or set down passengers without interrupting cyclists using the cycle lane.

Work on Gilbert Road Junction has started

Work has now started on improvements to the Gilbert Road which, when completed, will make the junction much safer for cyclists and pedestrians. We have installed temporary traffic lights and other traffic control measures so that we can do the work safely and are monitoring the impact of these temporary traffic lights on queuing traffic levels.

Kerbing, pavements and a Rain Garden

We are putting in a ‘rain garden’ at the junction of Akeman Street, which is designed to both help with the drainage of the road and improve the greenery in the area. One garden is complete and ready for the planting of trees and shrubbery and we are continuing work on the remaining three smaller sections. New pavement and cycle lanes have been finished between Gilbert Road junction and Carisbrooke Road on the Western side and are open for use.
