Child trust funds
We launched a review into Child Trust Funds. This will look at issues including cases where young adults cannot be contacted when they turn 18 and risk losing touch with their savings altogether.
It will also look at how firms are ensuring Child Trust Fund customers receive fair value under the Consumer Duty, and whether there are barriers to vulnerable young adults accessing their money.
We’ll report on this next year.
Frontier AI and cyber resilience insights
We have published new insights from our engagement with firms using, testing and preparing for frontier AI models with cyber capabilities. Firms told us that frontier AI is identifying vulnerabilities faster than organisations can fix them, making strong cyber and operational resilience foundations, effective governance and human judgement more important than ever.
Our report sets out what this means for firms and the key questions to consider. We encourage firms to review the insights and consider whether their governance, oversight and remediation arrangements can keep pace as AI capabilities continue to evolve.
Research into the UK's alternative investment fund market
We have published research into the UK's alternative investment fund (AIF) market using our regulatory data.
This research looks at how the UK AIF market has changed over time and how risks and vulnerabilities are distributed across it.
The market has grown significantly, with the value of funds managed in the UK reaching £1.8tn in 2025.
Growth in funds marketed in the UK is broadly spread across fund types, although private credit has emerged as one of the market’s fastest-growing segments of the market.
We're consulting on minor changes to insurance value measures reporting. This is to improve the quality, consistency and usefulness of the data firms provide.
Value measures data helps firms and us identify poor-value products and take action to improve consumer outcomes.
Our consultation proposals simplify reporting requirements, reduce unnecessary burdens on firms, and help us check that firms are offering while strengthening our oversight of fair value.
In the first half of 2027, we expect to consult again on further improvements to value measures and how to make published data clearer and ready for the future.
Next steps on tokenisation in wholesale markets
We've published a feedback statement summarising responses to our call for input on tokenisation in wholesale financial markets.
Responses supported our proposed approach, with most agreeing that post-trade is the key opportunity for tokenisation. This feedback will help us build a practical roadmap to support safe and effective adoption.
The feedback we receive will help us understand whether tokenising gold could boost efficiency and competitiveness, while maintaining market integrity and protecting consumers.
Supporting SME access to finance
We’ve published the findings of our review into SME access to finance. We found no evidence that our regulation is a major barrier to access finance, with many challenges relating to wider market, information and capability challenges.
As part of our commitment to supporting growth, we’re focusing on 3 areas to help reduce friction:
-
Supporting a more proportionate regulatory regime through Consumer Credit Act reform.
- Helping unlock the benefits of open finance, with SME lending a priority use case.
- Monitoring industry work on digital verification to reduce duplication in customer checks, while maintaining effective financial crime controls.
We’ve shared findings outside our remit with relevant bodies.
Pure Protection final report
We have published the final report of our Pure Protection Market Study.
While the market is working well for consumers who have protection insurance, we want more people to consider whether they could benefit from protection products such as life insurance, critical illness cover and income protection.
We will work with partners to achieve this, including:
-
HMRC, the Money and Pensions Service, and the Digital Property Market Steering Group will prompt people to think about protection at key life points.
-
The Protection Distributors' Group will lead a consumer awareness campaign.
- The Association of Mortgage Intermediaries will lead work to help advisers improve how they discuss protection with their customers.
Scale-up Unit expressions of interest
The Unit supports banks, building societies and other eligible dual-regulated firms, with a dedicated point of contact to help them overcome barriers and grow with confidence.
We have widened access for building societies, recognising that mutuals often follow different growth paths from banks. Building societies with credible growth ambitions are encouraged to apply, even where they may not meet every aspect of the standard eligibility criteria.
Regulatory Sandbox: climate scenarios cohort
The cohort will give firms and specialists the opportunity to test innovative climate scenario tools and approaches in a controlled environment.
Participants will be able to test their solutions using live market environments or firm data and receive support and feedback from our Innovation team.
We are seeking proposals from both UK and international organisations.
Applicants’ innovative approaches to climate scenarios could include tipping points and non-linear impacts.
We expect firms accepted into the cohort to begin testing in Q1 2027.
We've published findings from our review of how payments and e-money firms are supporting consumers in vulnerable circumstances, assessed against the requirements of the Consumer Duty.
We found positive practices, particularly where firms understood the characteristics of vulnerability within their customer base and tailored support accordingly.
We also identified areas for improvement, including how firms monitor customer outcomes, test whether the support they provide is effective, and oversee intermediaries who deal with customers on their behalf.
Firms should use our findings to assess whether they understand their customers' needs, provide appropriate support and deliver good outcomes in practice.
Our smart data accelerator team has published the outcomes from our mortgages and open finance policy sprint.
It explored the conditions needed for open finance to improve mortgage journeys in practice.
Participants identified opportunities for consumers to reuse information and evidence more effectively throughout the mortgage journey, such as when preparing for a mortgage, applying, remortgaging and managing a mortgage over time.
However, they also highlighted that adoption would depend on data being usable as trusted evidence, as well as safeguards, commercial arrangements and participation across the market.
Fake versions of FCA websites
We are aware of an increase in phishing activity directed at firms.
These involve cloned websites that closely mimic legitimate FCA websites, in an attempt to harvest user credentials and other sensitive information.
Firms should remain vigilant, follow our guidance on cloned websites, ensure staff carefully verify website addresses before entering credentials, and report any suspected phishing activity promptly in line with their incident management procedures.
Longer RegData operating hours
RegData now operates every day from 7am until midnight, including weekends and bank holidays.
The longer hours will improve access to our digital services and give firms more flexibility. It’s part of improvements to our digital services.
Support arrangements remain unchanged and firms should continue to use existing channels for queries relating to submissions or access. There are no changes to firms' reporting obligations, submission processes or other systems as part of this and firms do not need to take any action.
