The SEND and AP Change Programme
The government published the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Alternative Provision (AP) Improvement Plan in March 2023.
The programme aims include improving outcomes for children and young people and building parental confidence in the system.
Universally Available Provision and its Self-Evaluation Toolkit Update
Weโre excited to share updates on two key projects that will support schools in East Sussex on inclusion: the Universally Available Provision (UAP) and the Self-Evaluation Tool (currently known as the East Sussex Quality Mark for Inclusion - ESQMI). These updates will help schools prepare for upcoming government changes to Inclusion and Ofsted requirements. They also give educators and stakeholders a chance to provide helpful feedback.
For these updates, we will be bringing together primary and secondary school leaders, Special Educational Needs Coordinators (SENCos), representatives from the East Sussex Parent Carers Forum, Health services, Social Care, and East Sussex County Council.
Why This Matters
- Universally Available Provision (UAP): This framework helps schools create inclusive learning environments for all students. Your feedback will help shape how it is implemented across East Sussex.
- Self-Evaluation Tool: This updated tool will guide schools in supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and aligning with the latest Ofsted requirements.
Alternative Provision Specialist Taskforce (APST) Update
Launched in November, the APST are a team of specialists embedded in schools, who provide integrated support, share expertise, and embed best practices. This initiative aims to support children and young people at risk of exclusion or not being in school, across East Sussex.
Now nearly-fully staffed, the APST will support children in Hastings who have missed school due to exclusions. While the Local Authority currently offers online and in-person learning, LSEAT-supported by the APST-will take over, implementing a specialised plan to help students reintegrate into mainstream education.
You can find out more about the SEND and AP Change Programme on the Local Offer.
