Stories teach us about the world, they allow us to step into someone else’s shoes, feel empathy, relax and to escape. National Storytelling Week (27 January - 4 February 2024) is a celebration of the power of sharing stories.
This Storytelling Week we have Niall Moorjani telling Scottish myths and Alex Brooks asking 'Why, Oh Why, Am I a Crocodile?'
This January we have a smorgasbord of gastronomy writers visiting East Sussex Libraries.
Acclaimed author and social historian Daniel Gray has travelled to chippies across Britain, showing us how many of the themes that shape our country are drizzled in vinegar. Chippies brought equality, amplified regional and class differences and shaped local and national identity.
Richard Makin is a vegan cook and creator of the popular food blog, School Night Vegan. He began his foodie journey in 2017, when he switched from life-long vegetarian to a completely vegan diet. He is a dedicated, self-proclaimed, experimental vegan food scientist.
We have a new date for our open and honest talk about men’s health, supported by local poets and charities including Hastings Voluntary Action and Mind.
Rhymetimes and storytimes are an opportunity to meet other families, sing and enjoy a story. They are also great for children’s speech and language development.
We are looking for rhymetime and storytime volunteers.
Rhymetimes and storytimes are for babies, toddlers and their parents or carers. The volunteers will lead the rhymetimes and storytimes, greeting parents and children, preparing and performing suitable rhymes and stories. Sessions are normally for 20 to 30 minutes, plus set up and clear up time.
Just a reminder that our Young People's Library Consultation is ending on the 18 February 2024. This is your opportunity to tell us about your library experience and help us improve the services we offer to young people in East Sussex.
The Winter Mini Challenge is an online, bitesize version of our annual Summer Reading Challenge.
This summer, The Reading Agency teamed up with the Youth Sport Trust and public libraries to bring you Ready, Set, Read! – a Summer Reading Challenge that empowered young people to read and play, keeping children's minds and bodies active over the summer break. Following the success of this, they are delighted to continue the Ready, Set, Read! theme into the Winter Mini Challenge.
Our January quote is from Selected poems by Percy Bysshe Shelley.
