A major programme of work is going on right now to improve many of your roads.
More than £15m extra is being invested to repair and protect roads this year, with patching, new surfaces and drainage work.
We decided to make investment in better roads a priority because extreme weather is causing more damage to highways across the country. Just this week, we’re seeing the effects of heavy rain and we know how frustrating it can be when your journey is interrupted.
This additional spending won’t fix everything at once, but it will make a positive difference.
Storm Ciarán is expected to bring heavy rain and high winds to East Sussex from 6pm today (Wednesday) until midnight tomorrow (Thursday). This may bring flooding to some areas and disruption to roads and public transport.
You may wish to avoid travelling if you can and ensure outdoor objects like garden furniture or trampolines are secured.
The Met Office has advice on how to be: Weather Ready
We have more advice on preparing for flooding on our site.
We have launched a public survey for everyone in East Sussex to ask if you agree with our priorities for services and spending in the county.
It’s your chance to help your elected councillors shape decisions for the council plan and budget in 2024/25.
Like all local authorities, we are under severe financial pressure, but councillors will consider options (including use of our very limited reserves and council tax) to avoid reducing services.
The survey could take as little as five minutes to complete. Please do let us know how you see things.
