We have recently launched FlexiBus - a new flexible, on demand rideshare service operating across the county. Available in more rural areas of the county where traditional bus services don't quite reach, FlexiBus can take you to meet a friend, to the shops, your nearest town or to a medical appointment.
The cost of a FlexiBus ride is equivalent to a standard bus fare, capped at £2 for a single journey until the end of October or you can buy an adult day pass for £5. As FlexiBus is a ride share service you may pick up or drop of others on your way.
If you have questions or want to book a ride you can call 01273 078203 (6.30am to 7.30pm, Monday to Saturday). If you're happy using the app dowload RidePingo and start planning your journey!
Are you, or someone you know, looking for a new career? We may have just the role – and if you leave us your details we’ll get back to you soon with some of the options in our adult social care teams that might suit you.
Some of our jobs are office-based, some in care homes and some helping people in their own homes. They all have one thing in common though – they bring light into people’s lives. So if you enjoy helping other people that’s more important than your formal skills or experience - we’ll train you. You’d be working in a friendly, supportive team of all ages with a range of working hours to suit your home life.
Looking to kickstart a project that creates positive change in our county? Last year East Sussex County Council provided match funding to 26 projects and will be pledging a further £50,000 this year through Crowdfunder. Each project can receive up to £5,000 in funding from the East Sussex Community Wellbeing Fund.
We aim to support and provide exposure to projects that are helping to create social equity, economic prosperity, cultural vitality, and environmental sustainability in East Sussex.
So, if you have an idea to help people and the planet thrive, consider applying and making your good idea a reality!
Set up a Crowdfunder for your project idea and apply for the East Sussex Community Wellbeing Fund by 7 June 2024.
The Apprenticeships Roadshow is back for 2023! The events – at Hastings on 21 June and Eastbourne on 12 July - provide an opportunity for young people, parents and carers as well as job seekers and career changers across East Sussex to:
- meet employers with live apprenticeship vacancies in their area
- meet training providers who can help match young people with their perfect placement
- hear from employers, training providers and apprentices
- speak to advisers about what pathway is right for them
- speak to apprentices about what it is really like and their experiences
Each event brings together employers and training providers, providing up to date information on apprenticeships, from pre-employment through to higher and degree level apprenticeships. The council, together with the NHS and a number of local employers will be there promoting their apprenticeship opportunities.
The roadshows are at the White Rock Theatre, Hastings on Wednesday 21 June and the Welcome Building, Eastbourne on Wednesday 12 July. Both events will be open from 4.30pm until 6.30pm.
Last month we welcomed Balfour Beatty Living Places as our new highways contractor. For the next seven years Balfour Beatty will be responsible for maintaining the county's roads, pavements, drainage, streetlights, traffic lights and bridges, providing winter gritting and delivering highway improvement schemes.
Although the contract officially began on May 1, Balfour Beatty Living Places had been busy behind the scenes to ensure a smooth handover from the previous contractor. This has included a revamp of the www.eastsussexhighways.com website where residents can still find out everything they need to know about the highways service, roadworks near them and report problems directly to the team.
We know times remain tough for many people in East Sussex. If you think you could benefit from some help check our cost of living web pages where you can find advice, information and support on the cost of living.
You can find out about support available from the government, local councils or volunteers. You may be able to get help with money, food, heating, mental health and more.
